Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Character Sketches is an engaging annual anthology series containing the best emerging comic and illustration talent from Australia, including Shaun Tan ('The Arrival', 'The Red Tree'), Justin Randall ('30 Days of Night'), Chris Burns ('Waldo's Hawaiian Holiday' ), Christian Read ('Eldritch Kid') and more! Fractured moments, lives as train wrecks, curiosities of the everyday, simple pleasures, reminders of death; vignettes of people captured in response to their own perceptions and experiences of trauma and joy. Character Sketches. Cover art by Justin Randall.

Customer Reviews
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Eclectic mix, well worthwhile
Loved the mix of styles here! Justin Randall's story of the broken loser seeking a return to greatness, Skye Ogden's disturbing portrayal of a childhood gone wrong, Shaun Tan's brief fantasy-scape and Terry Dowling's articulate introduction. The Mark Welsh story of a mechanic with a difference (with writer Daniel Burke) really stood out too.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - A bit disappointed; sorry.
I bought this for the Shaun Tan piece. In general, the book is quite pretty, but none of the stories grabbed me at all. But if you don't know Shaun Tan's books, you should definitely buy The Arrival, The Red Tree, and The Rabbits immediately.
