- DO NOT buy Epson PrintersI learned my lesson after my third and final printer. This printers are noisy, huge and offer the worst quality of materials. It the printer detects you are running out of ink it will not let you print anymore. You will get an annoying message saying you are our of cyan and will not let you print any documents at all. Not even low res black and white. Any other brand will give you more for your money. Many people have help me with their reviews and I dream of saving any of you an ultra bad experience. Rating: - Works great!I bought this for a relative for Christmas last year. He really likes it and it sets up easy. Great photo prints and the CD labeler feature is a must for this musician relative. Rating: - not happyI have had this for a year. I have had to reinstall the software several times. The last time I had to call customer service and spent time that I did not have on a problem as simple as the inability to reset the memory on the operating system. Rating: - Great Printer...but very FINICKYI've been using the R220 for over a year now. Print quality is excellent in all modes, CD, photo and everyday printing. However, after about 6 months I found that the CD tray needs a small push to enter the machine properly; every time. Now, thicker photo paper will not feed without a "little push"! So yes, print quality is excellent, but after a little more than a year seems this printer will be ready for the "bone yard" very soon. I'll keep nursing it as long as I can because I have a lot of spare ink laying around, but if don't need direct CD printing (I do) maybe there are more reliable options out there. I'm sort of dissappointed with Epson on this one and if I didn't need direct CD/DVD printing I would certainly explore other options. Rating: - Works great for meI have a little business where I scan slides and prints and create DVD slideshows and convert VHS home movies to DVD, etc. I needed a printer that could print direct to the DVD/CD so I could get away from applying those annoying labels. I found my R220 online for $70(refurbished), and have been using it for a couple of years with just one problem: the DVD tray has to be "helped" into the printer with just a little pressure or it sometimes mis-feeds. I know this would be a show-stopper for many, but I put up with it because the printer is otherwise so reliable, the ink cheap (I buy compatible cartridges online for an average of $17 for a set of 6, and they work beautifully!), and the paper tray feeds perfectly. I read where other reviewers have had problems with photo and other thicker paper misfeeding, but I have had absolutely no problem. I routinely print on 8x10 glossy photo paper and card stock with never a problem. As for the printer not working with compatible remanufactured cartridges, the only time it's had Epson-brand cartridges was when I first got it, since then it's all been remans. I recently filled an order for 45 DVD's for a customer, and after 2 or 3 printed in a row, I noticed ink streaking a little on the face. I ran the printer head cleaning process, but it still streaked. I finally figured out the ink oversprays a little on the DVD cartridge tray that it sits on, so I just started cleaning it every other DVD with a clorox wipe, and ended up with perfect labels for the rest of the run. I also printed a custom 8x10 DVD case insert for each one, and I still have ink remaining after all that. I do agree with those reviewers who have complained about the actual print colors not matching the screen, but that's never been an issue for me since most of my printing is DVD/CD labels that I customize for each client. I hope this little jewel keeps on going, and when it does finally break down, I will probably try to find another online.
