- Nothing but griefI bought this for my small home office after my ever faithful C80 died after 3 years. I wanted the newer model because it was good for printing out decent photos and I have a lot of images of artwork to print out. As I am writing this I am on my third replacement printer, now the C88+ and I've gotten nothing but trouble from the C88 and the C88+ Sometimes the machine will not print at all, so i had my assistant check it out. First she made sure the driver was set in Page Setup, but after a while it became even more pickier and the driver setting would change the driver setting on its own. Then after we got that fixed the printouts came out faded, even after a NEW BLACK INK CARTRIDGE WAS INSTALLED! We called Epson and they sent us the newer C88+ and still we're getting grief. The first one they sent over died after about a week and a half, it just refused to print and kept saying the ink was out immediately after we put in a fresh one, and now the new one we have is doing the same thing, so we're counting down till that one refuses to print. We have to jump through hoops to get these printers to work and they still end up gving back another problem or setting itself back to the same problem and when you're trying to run a business you have no time to babysit and obsess about a printer. When you buy a piece of equipment is it too much to ask that it actually work and do the task its created for? NO! Do yourself a favor and please don't waste your precious, fleeting time and money on this plastic piece of trouble and grief. Rating: - I really like this very cheap printerWhat I like about this printer is that I can print DOS/Windows program reports via an LPT1 cable from my desktop and print Windows program reports via a USB cable from my laptop, all at the same time. My C88 printer was supposedly a "refurbished" discounted model from the Epson store but it came out of the box with what appeared to be original factory film and tape and in perfect condition. My experience with Epson in general is that their printers and all-in-ones don't seem to last very long. I'm hoping that the C88 will last longer than my last two basic HP Deskjets which lasted months, rather than years, even with light printing. The Epson DuraBrite/Claria color inks last forever but are frankly dull and muddy compared to the short lived but deeply colored and sharp HP dye inks. HP now offers longer lived inks in some of their printer models. The Epson driver software that comes with this printer is great. I especially like the Epson Web-To-Page software on the CD. The black and the color C88 ink cartridges are on the small side but for me they'll be good enough. You certainly can't complain about the price for this simple basic text/color inkjet printer. Rating: - Epson C88 PrinterI needed an Epson ptinter to replace an Epson C86 which I bought from Amazon 18 months ago...So far, the Epson C88 prints well enough, but although the Ink is not finished, looking at the Ink left in the Cartridges, I tend to agree with others who have posted a review that this machine consumes a lot of Ink Rating: - Excellent printer - great priceI have had my C88 for 2 weeks and printed @ 300 pages of primarily ebay and other web stuff. I use 3 different color settings depending on the quality output I need: draft, text, and text & image, but primarily text. Ink cartridges are still over half full, with the exception of the black, which is a third full. Use the text or draft setting and you will get fast, quality prints and use minimal ink. Print quality is great, ink is waterproof and smudgeproof. Insatllation was a breeze, web print feature is great to cature entire screen. I have had a few "jam" notices when I had no jams, but easily cleared. I have not tried it on photos, but it is not a photo printer. This is the 5th Epson I've owned, and I own a Canon photo printer. Epson software is superior, as is their printers in my opinion. All of my old Epsons are still in use by relatives and neighbors with no problems. Rating: - Where does the ink go??Our printer is new and we've printed around 8 -10 pages so far. Average text letters. We do not turn the machine off and on between uses. We kept printing after the light started to blink that we needed ink a couple of letters ago, but now the light stays on and the printer refuses to print unless I change the cartridge. Ouch-rageous!
