- too coolwhen I first heard "did you get my message" I thought it was Stevie Wonder and Norah Jones... very cool song... now I like everything on "A-Z" Rating: - Mraz is the ManI bought this CD solely for the song "Plane." I'd watched the video of him performing it over and over and over and just had to have the song. Well, the album version is completely different -- piano instead of guitar, more ballad-y, etc. But it's beautiful. Definitely one of my favorite Mraz songs. I must admit, though, I prefer Jason's acoustic stuff -- I've got tons of live performances. But this cd is addicting. I agree that it's overproduced. When you can write and sing and play guitar like this boy can, not much "production" is needed. And Mr. Lilywhite didn't seem to get that. Heh. Well, here's hoping his next record is more stripped down...more Mraz. Favorite tracks: Plane (beautiful lyrics, heartbreaking vocals), Please Don't Tell Her (wistful song about a man in denial...or at least that's how I'm interpreting it...), Life is Wonderful (so gorgeous it hurts), O. Lover (so funky and fun!) and the magnificent Song for a Friend (there are no words needed for this song. The best on the album). Rating: - How have I been sleeping on this?Like anyone who listens to AC in 2006 (hip-hop seems to be taking over the world), I heard Jason Mraz because some of those radio singles were ubiquitous. But, the "geek in the pink" seemed a lil square-er than I like my singers. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago, something made me check him out on Rhapsody. WOW! Where the hell have I been? Jason Mraz is the coolest geek I know! His wit runs relays thru the CD. His sense of humor I'm sure doesn't work for everybody, which just makes it that much more special for those who can appreciate it. This album is a lil more stylistic musically than Waiting... but at the heart of it, it's still Jason. "Wordplay" is too funny to me as he pokes fun at himself. That's always a plus when an artist can acknowledge the biz in such an honest light, akin to Rob Thomas' title track from "...something to be." Make no mistake though. This album is fun from beginning to end. Sure, his voice might be "too clean" as I've read, but I don't sing, so that means nothing to me. It sounds so pure and awesome to me. The CD plays like a companion rather than a stand alone. I heard on more than a couple occassions that his live shows are even better, and from the footage I've seen, the songs take a backseat, which is even better if you enjoy great live shows. Faves: "Life is Wonderful" "Geek in the Pink" "Wordplay" "Mr. Curiosity" "Did you get my message" "Clockwatching" and um...the rest of the CD! Great CD, fun, uplifting, danceable, and kinda corny in a cool way :) Definitely something that'll get heavy rotation in your CD player until someone in your life BEGS you to stop! Buy it, it's fantastic! And pick up "Waiting for My Rocket to Come." You might regret what you let slip away...like the geek in the pink. Rating: - Great stuff! It's a pity that so many reviewers classify Mraz as an artist for young people. I think his work is wonderful no matter what the age - I'm in my 40s and I love him, and my 10-year-old nephew loves him as well. His writing, both musically and lyrically, is incredible, and the variety of his songs makes his albums and live shows worth the price of admission. I will buy anything he does, alone or with others. Rating: - The gift was perfectBought this as a gift for my daughter, it arrived quickly, the surprise was awesome
