- my six-month scannerI'm giving this product a 4, in part for the service which Canon provides, which is very good. I ordered the CanoScan LiDE25 on March 28th, began using it a week later, and it stopped working near the end of September. I was sent a replacement soon after contacting customer support by email. The replacement I've received is a LiDE70 and the installation disk was defective, but within a day I was emailed information from CanoScan tech support (after a few tries) that made it possible to download the installation software from the Canon website and my replacement scanner is now working. For the price - and especially for the customer, tech and sales support - I'm satisfied. Satisfied with Canon support generally - have found it good and quick for all products I own. I like Kodak quality too, but their online and phone support is virtually non-existent and so I buy Canon instead. Similarly, with Samsung I've had great tech support so now for both quality and support I buy Samsung instead of HP. Rating: - Macintosh users bewareI purchased the model several years ago. I'd been quite happy with it, it worked on my PCs or my Macintoshs. The problem now is Canon has not kept up with the drivers on the Macintosh and since I don't use PCs anymore this unit is dead weight. Searching the Internet for alternate drivers shows me many other people have the same issue with driver software and there seems to be no alternatives. It is not USB 2.0 compatible BTW. It was not designed to be. Rating: - Pretty good qualityIt does good job for documents and photos. The only problem is a little bit slow. Rating: - great performanceGreat performance for the money, very easy to install. I am very satisfied with the product and delivery. Rating: - CanoScan Lide 25Especially in light of its low price ($49.99 with free (and prompt!) shipping), this product is an excellent piece of equipment and a fantastic buy, especially since my first scanner, which occupied half my desk space, cost just over $200.00! I've read negative reviews about its noise (scarcely more than a whisper), its slowness (so far I've never had more than a minute taken up, and, at age 80, I have the patience to deal with that), and scan quality (the first scan I did was to copy and print out our 2 passports, and it captured every detail accurately), all I can say is picky, picky, picky! I've set mine to import directly to Graphic Converter (The poor man's PhotoShop for the Mac, at $35.00!), which enables me to adjust sharpness, brightness, contrast, color balance, and color saturation in seconds, I'm delighted with the gadget. Perhaps the critics need to take the time to experiment with the ample contols available.
