- Love it!Before I get too far into the review, I should mention I use my scanner for art related purposes. So I do a lot of scanning from sketchbooks of different sizes. I've wanted a flatbed scanner for quite awhile and I recently decided to buy this one. It seemed like a good deal and it was what i wanted. Before that I used an all-in-one device that really didn't give me a good scan. This one fits everything pretty well. The scanning software is good too and easy to figure out. It also seems to scan faster than the all-in-one device and doesn't slow down my computer usage. And I also don't have to plug the scanner in which is absolutely great since I already use the outlet by my pc for a multitude of things. I think next I need to invest in a surge protector. Overall I'd say I'm in love, even though I haven't had it very long. Rating: - Does not work with Apple OS 10.5.2 Leopard! This scanner works with my company furnished laptop under XP Pro service pack 2. It does not work with my Mac-mini under OS X 10.5.2 which is why I bought it. When I go to the Canon website it gives me the Mac download for OS 10.5.2 but it fails to install. When I called Canon Tech Support they said it was a Apple problem and that I had to become a "root" user to install it! That also did not work. They then said it was Apple's operating systems fault!! The problem is the Twain driver is not recognized by the Mac OS. I had never had any problems with other third party software installing. I do know Canon did not write this for Apple's Universal binary which OS X likes and uses. I cannot recommend this to Apple users until Canon fixes this Twain driver issue. Rating: - Happily ScanningI bought this scanner about a month ago around the same time I needed my computer system upgraded. I read some reviews that mentioned the software was difficult to install and there were some problems, but since I had a professional set everything up for me during my system upgrade I haven't had a problem. I'm very happy with my scanner right now. Rating: - Canon CanoScan LiDE 25 disappointsI purchased and promptly returned a CanoScan LiDE 25. I was seeking only a basic scanner of good quality that would be relatively simple to operate. This item is low in the Canon line but I guess I assumed the name Canon would assure a high level of quality nevertheless. I was disappointed. The LiDE 25 is a very light weight unit - literally. It is almost toy-like in its construction and it's capabilities - it produced below par scans for me. I was replacing a mid-line Epson 1670 but the Canon was in an entirely different league and in my opinion is just not a good investment when you realize for a few more dollars you can have one of several other "real" scanners. Not recommended. Rating: - great little scanner for priceI was skeptical when I saw this only cost $49, but it works great. Not very fast, but it does a good job on the scan. It also takes up very little space on my desk. I would recommend it.
