- Good medicine for a broken heartGeorge has done it again, with a classic sound and some of the best lyrics in country. The day I bought the album, I liked it so much that I sat back in a chair and listened to the whole thing through. It's refreshing to know that good, clean, wholesome country is not a thing of the past. Having just endured a painful breakup, my favorites are "Ready for the End of the World," and "By the Light of a Burning Bridge." Both of these songs relate to a broken heart, but the clever lyrics get you laughing, too. There are plenty of upbeat songs, too, and in all honesty, there isn't a single song on here that I skip over. I highly recommend this one. Rating: - Not the greatest, but a good entry in superstar's long-running discographyNo, this won't go down as one of George Strait's best CD's. While a few of the songs really are terrific (the smash autobiographical title song hit for sure), most are not that memorable. But when the performer is one of the best male voices on the air; one who's humble persona and clean-cut life just begs for adulation; it takes little more than "nice" to be just fine for eleven new songs that by and large entertain. In addition to the great title cut, his duet with Lee Ann Womack is outstanding, even if she does steal the show by singing her heart out on a true country ballad for a change instead of trying to cross-over into Faith or Shania pop territory. We just wish there had been more than just the one phrase in two-part harmony by these two, in what is an awfully short story song. Other fun cuts include the lead song "If The Whole World Was A Honky Tonk"; "The Seashores Of Old Mexico"; the clever lyrics of "She Let Herself Go"; and the visionary "Ready For The End Of The World". While the other songs might seem more like filler, filler from George Strait is still pretty darn good. We suspect this CD will be quite successful - while maybe not one of his barnburners, still a very likable addition to his collection! Enjoy... Rating: - awesome cd hello im gail , i bought this new cd and i love the songs he is a great talented singer , and i just love the strait and law duet , good news , bad news awesome i recommend anyone who has not bought this cd to go out and buy it now , you will love it ....thanks taz(gail) Rating: - Very DisappointedLook, I love George Strait. Hell, I even liked the movie Pure Country. I was very anxious for this CD to be released. Let's all take a step back and be honest with ourselves. This is a bad CD. If this was his first CD it would receive zero air play. I suspect that people love it because they love George Strait. The first and last tracks on the CD (Somewhere Down In Texas and By the Light of a Burning Bridge) are the best ones and they are mealy okay. Nothing really special about either of them. The rest of the CD is a throw away. George Strait is much better then this. It is far below his standards and should never have been released. Rating: - Saddle up and ride STRAIT out and buy this album! I've been a George fan for years... seen him for years in Okie city when he used to play here every year for Halloween. George represents years of tradition for me. He is what brought me over to country music... I had yet to discover Willie... Toby... Clint... Waylon... et all... He is like bisquits and gravy, traditional. But this album knocked me smooth out of my traditional boots. George is consistent... has been for years. But this album is better than just consistent. Its fabulous. If the whole world was a honky tonk... okay. Tell me a story bout that. Love. Love. Love. Somewhere down in Texas. This is a legacy song. Beautiful voice. I can already see him in concert, standing behind that microphone and letting that guitar swing. George's contribution to the lastest country wave....Seashores of Mexico. Great story... love the gringo. Fast pace. Fun! Kick um up! You'll be there... ough! agh! Just like watching fireworks in the midnight sky. Many, many wonderful songs... he's really singing again. And not that there is anything wrong with what George has been giving us for years.. but this album reeks of Marina Del Ray years. She let herself go.... My favorite. Good passion, great tones. George. Thanks for never selling out. Still wearing the high waisted wranglers and the really starched shirt and doing it better than anyone ever dreamed... I do declare!
