Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great mouse for gaming or just regular use
If you think about it, the mouse and the keyboard are the two things you use the most when you're at your computer. You shouldn't just settle for the cheapo basic optical mouse. Get something that feels good, works well, and is accurate.

I've been using the MX510/518 for years and I love this mouse. I initially bought it for gaming and it's an excellent gaming mouse. After I got used to having it I couldn't got back to anything less. Even for regular computer use. I highly recommend this mouse.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Just a plain good mouse
Great gaming mouse. Not too fancy. Gets the job done without having to spend too much time with setup. Simple software. Perfect for Call of Duty 4.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Excellent Linux support, but one unrelated quirk.
For the most part this is a great mouse. The only issue I've had is that when running Windows XP the mouse wheel tends to have some backlash now and then. By that I mean when scrolling down using the wheel, the window will occasionally scroll back up by a mouse wheel increment. It appears to be a software thing since I have not had the problem when running Linux ( Gnome/Fedora 8 ).

The Linux support is fantastic by the way - plugged it in without having to install any additional software and the +/- buttons change the sampling speed without any issue.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Get the G5 Instead
I love Logitecs products. This one is a disapointment though. My wife got me one for christmas. Its slipery. Its too small. Its painful to use for long periods of time. The DPI sensitivity buttons are placed poorly. Its frustrating when you accidentaly push those sensitity buttons.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Horrible tracking; cheaply made.
I have no idea why this has such great reviews--it only worked "okay" right out of the box, but after a week or so the tracking became erratic and jumpy. I purchased this for its high resolution tracking, as I spend 8-10 hours a day working in Photoshop and InDesign and need precision to do my job quickly.

In the four months I've had this, I've had to rely on my wacom tablet almost exclusively because the MX518 is so infuriating to use. I got so sick of using it just for browsing, that I finally bought a new mouse a few days ago. I've used mice that cost from $100 to $15, and I can honestly say this one was the worst of them all.

To top it all off, the plastic casing is extremely cheap-looking and unpleasant to rest your hand on--the paint (or plastic coating?) is all worn off the black logo on top.

I expected higher quality from logitech than this.
