Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - KENNY AT HIS BEST
This is an excellent sample of KENNY ROGERS music over the years, chronologically arranged from his time with the FIRST EDITION to the present day. There is also a varied selection of duets. I especially like the new song-poem,"WE ARE THE SAME". A very pleasant collection for any music lover.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Kenny Rogers 42 Ultimate Hits
What a great review of Kenny's most popular songs. I thoroughly enjoy listening to it.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great Collection
This two disc set is a great collection and doesn't overwhelm like the boxed set does. All of Kenny's huge hits are here, every collection lacks a song or two for every person interested in hits collections and I'm no exception. I really wish the duet performed with Gladys Knight "If I Knew Then What I Know Now" was here. It was a huge hit and oddly enough was overlooked by the producer of the boxed set. Now, let's talk mastering. Wow, is this set turned down. Kenny had a small hits package with Warner Brothers called "Decade" and that collection was superb in it's overall mastering. Capital has been releasing a myriad of hits collections by other artists and the sound levels are nowhere near as muted as this set. The off-label songs like "Buy Me A Rose" have been turned down to fit with the rest of this album. To me, hits collections are a testament to a sucessful career and should be regarded as great works and need to be presented in the best sound possible. Other than this small complaint, 42 hits is a damn fine project.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - This album is great for a starter album
This album is great for a starter album and includes "the greatest",and "buy me a rose." This is the only main reason to purchase this album is because those two are on a compilation album, but where is "slow dance more," "he will, she knows," "there you go again," "write your name" "crazy in love" "what about me," "ole' red," "if you want to find love," "the factory," "handprints on the wall" or even "if i ever fall in love again (with ann murray)?" I would personally recommend "through the years" a four disc box set. It has everything Rogers ever did pretty much up to that point. I love his music but don't think this is the best he could have done with the 90's and beyond material on this album. This is hardly the ultimate collection. I am still waiting for a 90's through 00's greatest hits collection. Kenny Rogers is the best though, and his last album "back to the well" is great too.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The greatest collection of songs of my life time.
Let me say quite frankly that this is the absolute best collection of songs ever made and performed by a Legend. However, the sound quality is not audiophile standard because of the lack of digital remastering.I would have paid the extra cost for much improved sound quality. The tracks on disc 2 is so amazing the every effort should have been made to use 24 bit mastering technology to improve the frequency range.
