Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - The Producers
A very good cd. There are so few really good broadway musicals anymore, that it's nice to hear one that is melodic. Overall, it's good, but not great. The singing is also good, but not great. The main good point about this show is the humor and what elso would you expect from a talent like Mel Brooks. Overall, truly an enjoyabe show and cd. I saw the show live and it was a blast.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A riot with The Producers
I had gone to see the (London) stage show after enjoying the film many years ago. To my pleasant surprise the stage show had introduced some new features and the whole experience greatly surpassed the film. The original London cast of Nathan Lane and Lee Evans were superb with Lane as Max Bialystock having stood head and shoulders above the rest of the wonderful cast. Having had such a good experience I wanted to re-live the experience through the Cast Recording although I was a touch apprehensive about how Matthew Broderick would compare to Evans however I needn't have worried as he plays the timid, niaive Leo Bloom to perfection.

If you are easily offended by stereotyping don't bother watching or listening to The Producers but for everyone else who has a sense of humour who can enjoy Mel Brook's tongue-in cheek absurdity then this is a must for your CD collection. In these days of political correctness Brook's throws the rule book out of the window with his larger than life characters.

Clever writing littered with subtleties and excellent timing make this musical comedy glide through seamlessly. This is Brook's materpiece and he has more than successfully managed to transfer and improve upon a classic film to create the kind of smash stage show that Max Bialystock worked so hard to avoid. At least he could keep listening to the CD to figure out what went so right!

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Awful!
I really did not like Producers at all. The cast recording was just boring...nothing new or original and nothing that really grabs you and leaves you stunned and speachless. Oh actually I take that back I was speechless by how terrible this was. To me there isn't anything funny about the Nazis and what they did and to me it's too bad so many people love this immoral show. I was repulsed by how terrible is was and I never need to listen or see it again.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Hysterical !
I was fortunate enough to see "The Producers" with Nathan Lane & Matthew Broderick shortly after it's premiere. The show was absolutely hysterical, with a really strong score. Nothing against Mr. Broderick, but Mr. Lane's part is larger & has the best songs. He totally deserved the Tony for Best Actor that year.

Musically, the production contains more songs than a typical score, with strong voices and orchestrations. Best tracks include:

The King Of Broadway
I Wanna Be A Producer
Keep It Gay
When You Got It, Flaunt It
Along Came Bialy
Springtime For Hitler
Betrayed [Lane's "tour de force" recap of the show]

While I wouldn't call this the best show to grace the stage (though it won the most Tonys ever & NY critics tripped over themselves in praise), it is fantastic & came at a time when the Great White Way was taking itself way too seriously. Also, it was too bad that "The Full Monty" did not share in the victories of that season. Timing is everything!

Nonetheless, one of the best scores ever!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Racist My Foot!
Okay, this review is for the people who are complaining about this show being "racist" and stuff. Oh my gosh- get over yourselves!!!!!!!!!!!!! This show isn't about Germans, it's about two people who want to be producers! My friend, who is 100% Gemran, went and saw this show in New York and told me she absolutely loved it! So it's not just us "evil Americans" who like this show. Stop being so uptight. Sometimes, it's good to have dark humor. It makes things like the Nazis less depressing. If we never make fun of them and use them to make us laugh, then in my mind they've won. (Oh and by the way, to the person who talked about the biggest mass muderer in history- actually Hitler wasn't the biggest, Joseph Stallin killed a LOT more people than Hitler) And anyway, in the play, "Springtime for Hitler" is SUPPOSE to be a bad play that doesn't make any sense. That's the whole point of the musical! Is that the two producers make money off something that was suppose to flop! I think people just need to stop taking things so personally and stop blaming America whenever they choose to take something the wrong way. (America has its own problems, thank you very much. Not all Americans are wealty and happy, despite our image) Well you know what, America makes fun of itslef and we can laugh about it. I bet someday there'll be a play just like this one about the 9/11 attacks. It's good for people to laugh at that kinda stuff. It makes everything less gloomy. Anyway, that being said........
This play is funy. Period. The music and lyrics are hysterical. Period. It's no suprise that "Producers" won more TONY Awards than any other show!
