You can get laptops with stiffer hardware specs at Dealnews or others sites for the same or a little more in price. I don't see the rationale for paying that much for inferior hardware when vendors are still trying to get laptops from 3 years ago out of inventory, all of which have better specs than this cute little system. This Linux version comes replete with a wealth of educational and other software for children. The Linux Classmate is wonderful for helping a child learn basic computer skills. Some of the games teach how to use a mouse and keyboard. Other games teach math, logic, geography, etc. The Classmate PC is designed for children, hence the small keyboard. It was also not that substantially more expensive than the Asus eee. The base eee costs around $300 but that includes a puny 2 GB HD and no webcam.
