Her first, the self-released Careful Confessions, led to a deal with Epic. Since then, Bareilles has opened for Marc Broussard and Maroon 5. She's also become a bonafide soundtrack queen with tracks featured in female-centric films Girl Play, Loving Annabelle, and Monster-in-Law. As with her out-of-print debut, the UCLA grad wrote every song on her first major label recording (Little Voice features re-worked versions of several demo numbers). Like the portrait on the back of the CD--Bareilles in strappy black dress and lace-free high-tops--the piano-playing chanteuse combines the sweet with the scruffy. While her jazzy pop melodies are radio-ready, her relationship-oriented lyrics can be unexpectedly salty ("Bottle Up" and "Come Round Soon" wouldn't pass FCC muster). A little profanity here and there, however, doesn't indicate tough-girl attitude--Amy Winehouse can rest easy--so much as a desire to express herself freely. As Bareilles explains in "Love Song," "I'm trying to let you hear me as I am." (Not surprisingly, her degree is in communications.)  Rating:  - Love this CD!!!Sara Bareilles is wonderful! I enjoy every track, and every time I listen...I hear something new!! She is an amazing artist. Take a moment, and listen to "Little Voice". I'm sure you will find out as I have how great it is to buy a CD and actually enjoy every song!!! Don't let the title fool you, there is nothing little about Sara Bareilles' voice!! Rating: - Addictive!All I can say is WOW. This girl can sing, and what's more she can write and play. Do yourself a favor and get this CD. Just remember though, I am not responsible if you become addicted to it. Rating: - where is extended version with lines about "love letter..."I was listening MIKE radio in Boston and heard a long version that included lines "I'm not going to write you a love LETTER...." in addition to the eponymous "Love Song." Where is that extended and augmented version, pretty sure it runs past the 4:20 or so on the album. Anyone familiar with THAT version?? Rating:  - Missing some soulA lot of good elements, but this album just doesn't quite have enough soul or depth to make it past radio pop. Rating: - My favorite CD of 2007, and 2008!I bought this cd last summer and I still haven't taken it out of my stereo. Her voice is a breathe of fresh air! I love her sound - soulful, folk, strong but quiet. When I heard that the radio was playing "Love Song" I was excited that she was getting recognition. I just hope this doesn't change her sound.
