Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - What a Package!! What a Bargain!! What Wagner!!
There's not really a lot to say about a package containing all post-Rienzi operas from Bayreuth at less than $2/disc. I can't seriously imagine anyone being disappointed by this set: cast after cast of superb singers, conductors -- all bathed in that glorious Bayreuth sound. Some might argue over one performance vs. others, but there are no disappointments here. Decca deserves congratulations for making this available.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A Phenomenal Bargain -- Don't Hesitate
Though hardly a Wagner fanatic, I have increasingly come to admire, if not always to love, his music dramas for their boldness, sublime pathos, and cosmic scope. To know Wagner is to appreciate, at very least, where Bruckner, Mahler and Strauss came from (they didn't spring fully formed from the head of Zeus--or Woden as the case may be). Wagner also has the ability to shed light--sometimes garish, sometimes healing, always searching--on some of the darkest places in the human psyche. If you fancy ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great Bargain.
As other reviewers have noted, this set is a great bargain. For me it is, other than "The Compact Ring" CD conducted by Levine, my introduction to Wagner's operas. I was mainly interested in the complete Ring cycle and was about to order the Bohm performance set when I discovered that that entire set is included in this set, and that it is cheaper to buy this set than it is to buy the Bohm Ring cycle set separately.

An outstanding bargain.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Wagner: The Great Operas from the Bayreuth Festival
Great series of operas. We have been pleasently surprised at the sound quality. Great buy for a great set of 10 Wagner operas

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A No Brainer
Buying this set is a no brainer. The price for acquiring recordings of all of Wagner's major operas is irresistible. All of these performances range from good to great. Although recorded live, audience noise is almost non-existent and the balance between orchestra and singers is very good. The sound is as good as many of my recordings made in a studio. I had all recordings of all of these operas before buying this set. However, getting to hear other performances of these works was too pricey for ... Read More
