Binding: Audio CDEAN: 0656191005524 Label: Prosthetic Records Manufacturer: Prosthetic Records MPN: 10055 Number Of Discs: 1 Publisher: Prosthetic Records Release Date: March 18, 2008 Studio: Prosthetic Records Editorial Review: Album Description: While revisiting the band's first two albums, TESTAMENT, rather than remastering or reissuing, the classic pairing of Chuck Billy, Alex Skolnick, Eric Peterson along with metal legends Steve DiGiorgio and John Tempesta re-recorded what the band calls `their own greatest hits' collection from the era. With updated production values, TESTAMENT staples like "Into The Pit," "Over The Wall," the album's pseudo title track, First Strike Still Deadly both offers longtime fans a welcome addition to the catalog and newcomers a fresh introduction to the classic sound of thrash legends...albeit a bit updated with a heavier sound, slicker production and crisper packaging. Also, making an appearance on First Strike Still Deadly are two tracks featuring original vocalist - in the days when TESTAMENT was known as Legacy - Steve Souza (Exodus, Dublin Death Patrol) on "Alone In The Dark" and "Reign of Terror," as well as artwork with increased imagery, as was intended to be used on the initial release of First Strike Still Deadly. ![]() Rating: - Fantastic!I had forgotten how good of a band Testament was. All of my Testament discs were lost/stolen a long time ago so this was a great replacement. NOTE: this is not just a re-mix but a actual re-recording of the best tracks from the first two albums with much better quality. I think this is a very cool concept. How awesome would if be if Metallica re-recorded "Kill 'em All" or Megadeth re-recorded "Killing's My Business...And Business is Good." I'd buy that in a heartbeat. These ... WTF happened that made them decide to change their sound so drastically??? I like the new direction the band took but, their sound doesn't measure up! I think it's a sad statement for the band to go back into the studio & fix something that wasn't broken! You don't see Metallica re-recording the songs ... Many of their best songs, refined/mature, well mixed. GREAT guitar work by Skolnick. Tempesta is solid/tight (but not very exciting). I've never been into Testament but this is the CD that finally turned me into a fan. Rating: - Testament at his bestThe re-recording of all the classics from Testament, with Skolnick back on lead guitar and Christian on bass. The result is a real masterpiece. Most of the songs form The Legacy and New Order are heavier and much more intense than the original ones. The solos are technically perfect (sometimes even jazzy). Beautiful, technical, melodic, heavy : TESTAMENT. Not forgetting Tempesta on drums : his work is just so perfect, technically delightful. I think he's the best drummer Testament can have. A lot of people ... Read More Rating: - Still deadly after all these yearsOriginally released in 2001, this album was the result after label politics made it unlikely for Testament's early albums The Legacy and The New Order to be remixed. So, select tracks from those two albums were re-recorded by Eric Peterson (guitars), Alex Skolnick (guitars), John Tempesta (drums), Steve DiGiorgio (bass), and Chuck Billy (vocals), to showcase how some of their best classic material sounds with today's recording technology. Recently out of print, the album is back, this time on Prosthetic Records ... Read More |
