Amazon.com Product Description:
Get the power of a full-sized laptop in the ultra-compact ASUS Eee PC 4G, which offers a full QWERTY keyboard, 7-inch screen, and preinstalled Linux operating system. (This laptop is also compatible with the Microsoft Windows XP operating system.) You'll be able to stay connected to email and the Internet easily thanks to the Wi-Fi LAN (802.11b/g), and communicate via video chat and VoIP with the Webcam integrated into the display's bezel. Because it uses flash memory instead of a hard drive (with 4 GB of storage), the Eee PC is optimal for weathering rough handling and sharing space in overstuffed bags.

With a rapid start-up time, the Eee PC is always ready to get into action. Note that this product is black, not white as shown in the image.

For the professional, the Eee PC comes with a powerful selection of software to maximize personal productivity--over 40 built-in applications. The Open Office suite of software enables the user to open, edit and create documents, presentations, spreadsheets and databases that are compatible with Microsoft Office. For journalists, photographers and other professionals who need to use a computer in the field to create, to communicate and to collaborate with other colleagues, the Eee PC's combinati on of power, extreme portability and rugged build makes it the ideal computing solution.

It's also a great choice for young students, with a built-in Dictionary that's great for homework, and it includes two modes of intuitive graphic user interface design to accommodate both experienced and inexperienced PC users. The Eee PC also handles your digital images, movies, and music as well as Internet radio.

No technical manual required with the specially designed, user-friendly, and intuitive graphic interface.
Compact and highly portable at just 32 ounces, the Eee PC 4G has a 7-inch wide color TFT LCD with an 800 x 480-pixel resolution (WXGA). Under the hood is a 900 MHz Intel Mobile CPU with integrated Intel graphics processor, 512 MB of RAM (not expandable), and 4 GB of solid-state flash memory. With the dependable solid-state disk, you get unparalleled shock-protection and reliability. In addition to its wireless LAN, it also offers wired Fast Ethernet connectivity. The Eee PC includes software for Web browsing (Firefox), email, OpenOffice 2.0 for creating and editing word processing documents and spreadsheets, and a suite of other productivity software to help keep you on track.

You get three USB 2.0 ports, a VGA output for connecting to external monitors, headphone and microphone jacks, and a Secure Digital (SD) memory card slot. The Eee PC measures 8.9 x 6.5 x 1.4 inches, and it weighs 32 ounces. The 4-cell, 5200 mAh battery provides up to 3.5 hours of battery life (depending on usage). It's backed by a 1 year warranty for parts and labor.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great little laptop
I don't really understand why people buy most laptops. At 5 pounds or more, they are not easy to carry, and they are too big to fit anywhere. Do you really need a dvdr/w with you at all times?

What I want is a truly portable machine, one so small you never debate bringing it along with you. This fills the bill.

I got the 701 instead of the 900 since reviews said the wifi range was better and the battery life is better, and of course the price is better. With the 901 ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - eee Pc
This is a great gadget! I highly recommend it! I use it to hop onto wireless networks when I'm out and about, check e-mail, write documents and surf the web.

PROS: Ultra-portable (unbelievably small!), finds wireless networks easily, easy to use/ navigate, great for writing on the go, Open Office is compatible with both Mac and PC (I have both). External memory easily added via USB.

CONS: Battery life is a bit short (about 2 hours). Although Open Office is PC/Mac compatible ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - I love it!!!!!
This little laptop is great! The reason I bought it was for the size and portability of it. I would have given it a 5 star rating but there may be a couple of shortcomings that after a month of owning still haven't found to dissipate. First thing would be getting the Linux version of Adobe to download, second and really the most burdening of the two would be the battery life. I've had a 15" Toshiba Satellite that ran on its own battery supply for 2 hours and the Eee pc does the same. Being more than ... Read More

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Infinite boot-loop ... no tech support
About 3 weeks after purchasing this brick, it started rebooting itself. As time went on, it learned to enjoy the boot sequence and revisited it often -- every time it was turned on. I've been unable to locate my warranty registration card, so I can't even find out where to send it to get it fixed. The associated website is useless. There are quite a few places on the Web where discussions indicate that this rebooting problem is not unique to my machine.

If someone knows how to get this piece ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Why I love the eeepc 4G
I bought the 4G about 4 months ago and have loved the change from hauling around a full-sized notebook. I and my family do a fair bit of international flying and you really notice it on 20 hour plus traveling marathons. I changed over to XP and used a free program called Nlite to get the install down to 1 GB. I have two small kids and I loaded up an 8 GB SD card with Pixar movies that I ripped from DVDs to mpeg 4 at about 300 to 500 MB each. It works very well as a portable DVD replacement using VLC media ... Read More
