If you like classical music and enjoy even a few of Beethoven's pieces, this is a must-have purchase. Rating: - Spend a few months reliving the career of Ludwig van BeethovenFirst off, you may be familiar with Brilliant's universally acclaimed Bach and Mozart Editions, which emphasize historically informed performances, often on period instruments, and consist mainly of recent recordings by obscure musicians (mostly based in the Netherlands), contracted directly by Brilliant Classics. The Beethoven Edition set is quite different. These are entirely "modern" performances on modern instruments using the standard playing techniques of the post-World War Two period. Most ... A sampling of a number of different works (symphonies, string quartets, concedrtos, piano sonatas...)reveal first rate performances in all cases I have sampled. The recording is also great. Overall they pick pretty good versions of each piece, but at this price, you can use it as reference to fill out with specific artist, later. This is compact in packaging and a great gift for people in apartments or students who are learning about the essential classical music created in our world.
