Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Blast Works is a side-scrolling shooter that lets players craft the game to their liking by building their own levels, ships and enemy ships. In addition, players can "absorb" the pieces and weapons of destroyed enemy ships to bolster their own defenses during battle. Across more than 15 different land, air and sea missions, the goal of Blast Works is to destroy enemy ships while continually growing your own into a massive craft by absorbing their fragments. The larger a "fused ship" is, the easier it is to protect from the growing onslaught of enemy firepower. Players can also upgrade their ship in the Hangar by customising weapons, propulsion systems and armour. The game's 2-player cooperative mode lets players work together to blast enemies, fuse debris to grow their ships and finish the mission as a team. Finally, creative types will enjoy building a ship from scratch with the Ship Editor and then testing it out in combat on a custom level they've built with the Level Editor. With the multiple editing and customization options, you'll never play the same game twice! ESRB Rated RP for Rating Pending

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Best Wii Game for the Price!
I love this game! It's pretty hard to get anywhere at first, but it's such a blast that doesn't matter. Very ridiculous in terms of what your ship looks like after collecting a bunch of junk- I was laughing at mine all through the game. Very fun. Very challenging. Very low price. Very high satisfaction and replay value. Overall one of my favorite games for the Wii.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - My son loves this game but...
My son loves this game, but it locks up periodically. Does anyone else have this problem? Or perhaps we received a defective one?

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Only if you plan to build your own levels ...
I didn't know much about this game going in, but I'd heard good things about it and decided to pick it up because Best Buy was practically giving it away. As of this writing (7/30/08), they're selling it in stores for half the price that Amazon has it listed.

I will say this about the game.. it has a pretty extensive level editor where you can design everything from the ships to the bullets to the enemies, and everything in between. Not only can you design your own levels, but you can ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Katamari Juggling in Space!
Blast Works is a simple shooter (aim right, blast everything, dodge bullets) but with a strategic twist. Enemy weapons, missiles, even enemy ships can be added to your ship on the fly. As your fighter shoots them down, you can swoop in and touch those same ships and they stick like glue to your ship. Their weapons keep on firing, often in random directions, but some have homing missiles or simply shoot forward. And as such, your ship gets bigger and bigger with more and more firepower.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - If It Ain't Broke... Don't Fix It
Blast Works is a game that, well, works. It's got high intense action like the arcade games of the 80's with a few extra twists thrown in there for good measure. It's a game that's simple to pick up and play but it actually manages to be challenging enough as well. The simplicity itself is probably why it's so good.

There's no real story to Blast Works but the concept is good. Take a simple arcade stylized game and vamp it up. You fly from one end of the level to the other, blowing ... Read More
