Binding: Audio CDEAN: 0753223602024 Label: Gemini Sun Records Manufacturer: Gemini Sun Records MPN: 6020 Number Of Discs: 3 Publisher: Gemini Sun Records Release Date: May 22, 2007 Studio: Gemini Sun Records Editorial Review: Amazon.com: Myths and Legends arrives 20 years after the release of Valley in the Clouds, David Arkenstone's still-mesmerizing debut recording, and the composer/multi-instrumentalist calls it "probably the most ambitious project I have ever attempted." Extras certainly abound here. Beyond a bonus DVD, which mingles nature images, animation, and a few campy videos, Myths and Legends includes a supplemental audio CD designed to be played simultaneously (on a separate system) with the main audio disc. Synching up two discs can be an unwieldy task, yet the effort yields an entertaining listening experience where the main disc is enriched by a wealth of sonic accents (roars, voices, rattles, and hums), giving Arkenstone's musical tales a deeper dimension. (The migration of electric guitar between the two discs during "Daughter of the Sun" provides some fun aural calisthenics.) So, is it great music or just a great gimmick? For fans attracted to Arkenstone's cinematic flourishes and storytelling reveries through sound, it's pleasant, usually interesting listening--another reminder that he remains a worthy contender for a major soundtrack project. Arkenstone adorns many compositions with Celtic, Middle Eastern, and tribal colors, and links many with a sense of spirited, seafaring swagger. His fondness for flutes sometimes softens his sound a touch too much, but at other times Arkenstone allows the cosmic winds to carry him to interesting, dynamic places (such as "Tree of Life"). --Terry Wood Album Description: Historical first - includes "Magical Bonus CD" and a full length DVD including interviews with David Arkenstone and director Johnny Wilson. "An amazing magical three disc set with a unique and unprecedented twist." The second magical CD is designed to be played simultaneously with the "Myths and Legends" CD and contains supplemental ambient textures, layered melodic material, sound effects and sonic encoding designed to transform each listening experience into a personal journey of discovery over unique multiple listening's. Renowned visionary David Arkenstone holds the key to a secret centuries old, made of magic and mystery, of Myths and Legends. A place that exists all around us and within our hearts, minds, and souls. The key to this secret lies within the musical textures, layered melodic material, and sonic encoding contained herein. Each playing offers a personal journey of discovery unlocking a hidden door bringing light into our world. Supplemental textures of this three disc Audio Visual Connect Series(tm) transform and mold each listening experience into a singular unique event, never to be duplicated again. You now hold the key in your hand, it is time to unlock the door! Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - myths and legendsgreetings from slovenia i hope we are gona here some more music like this in near future my value of this album its 10 on the scale of five hope he will continue this work Rating: - Brilliant!IMO, this is David Arkenstone's best outing since leaving Narada. If his older recordings (I have EVERYTHING he has ever recorded including Trokia) were available in 5.1 SACD, I'd buy every one of them again in an instant. Buy this, you will be happy! Regards, Jan Rating: - A disappointment - sorry.I'm a huge fan of David's, love his unbelievable creativity and most of all, his ability to blend music and sounds that sweep over you and draw you into his vision. But for me, this CD was a bust. It's really nothing but a collection of chiming, tingling, and (yes) mystical sound effects. No real music. It just drones on and on. Something you'd hear playing in the background of a fortune teller's shop, to be sure. Sorry to disagree with those 5 star ratings, but before you buy this CD, I suggest ... Read More Rating: - This is something newI must say, this is an ambitious album: three discs: two audio track CDs to be played at the same time, and a DVD. The first audio disc has the essential music, and the second audio CD contains the ambient, supportive tracks and sound effects, including narration, especially on the Legend of Bell Rock, and The Wolf's Head: this "backup" CD is quite satisfying listening in its own right, and makes very nice background "white noise" if you want that sort of thing as you work. The two discs work ... Read More Rating: - Excellent CD for anyone interested in music that will move your imagination!!This is a great CD by Mr. Arkenstone. I would recommend it to anyone who loves instrumental music!! |
