Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
The first clue to the sound of Avril Lavigne's third CD, The Best Damn Thing, comes in the form of her kickoff single, "Girlfriend," which is filled with singing, clapping, and cheerleader-style chanting. The song is quite a sonic contrast to her previous disc, Under My Skin, which was considered to be Lavigne's more mature follow-up to her 16 million-selling debut CD, Let Go. Like that debut, The Best Damn Thing will be largely and deeply embraced by teenage girls, and is packed with songs that will create enthusiastic sing-alongs in concert. There are a handful of numbers that will appeal to a wider audience; "Innocence" and disc closer "Keep Holding On" would both fit perfectly in a Gray's Anatomy episode, while the sultry message and solid harmonies in "Hot" will appease ears of many ages. Lavigne's husband, Sum 41 frontman Deryk Whibley makes an appearance as producer and instrumentalist on a handful of tracks; their union, however, seems to have bred more than love. "I Don't Have to Try" and "Everything Back But You" both have a frenetic pace and chorus that is so eerily Sum-like that if they weren't married, a copyright lawsuit might ensue. That aside, the record oscillates between lyrically acerbic fare ("One of Those Girls," "I Can Do Better") and fluffy sugar-pop melodies ("Contagious," "The Best Damn Thing") delivering far more spunk rock than punk rock. --Denise Sheppard

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - The Best Damn Album! ...sort of!
I waited a while to purchase this album because the price was a bit too high when it was first released. Now that they hype of the first summer single is over, I can listen to the album for what it is...a good feeling rockish collection of songs. I was not impressed with "Girlfriend" when I first heard it. I believe it sounded too immature for Avril. She has a good mind and has made some interesting music in the past without giving the impression that she was selling out. There are one or two other ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - YOU ROCK!!!
Just so everyone knows this is not they Trudy who typed the other reviews. This is her daughter, Mossmask.

Anyway...I simply love Avril Lavigne!, and I hate those who say her voice sucks or that she's bratty-cause she's NOT! I think she sings awesomely and people can connect to her sings. Plus, she is a very strong person. Did you know she sang at a concert the same day her grandfather died-after he died? Some of earth's population may think she is just horrorible and that she cusses too ... Read More

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Yeah, This Album Sucks
For those of you who are fans of Let Go and Under My Skin please don't tarnish your good opinion of Avril by listening to this album because it's absolute garbage. I can't listen to this without laughing- it really is that bad. The only reason I gave it any stars at all are for the three tracks that easily could have appeared as bonus tracks on Under My Skin and are worthy of a download:

When You're Gone
Innocence
Keep Holding On

This album blows.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Lives Up To Her Bad Reputation
I like this cd. Reminds me of Joan Jett's "Bad Reputation" - punky, bratty, fun, if perhaps a bit over-produced. Not crazy about the new band; I liked the younger guys better than these older "pros". To my ears, they gave her work a bit more energy; my only complaint on "Best Damn Thing" is that the music sounds somewhat forced, a bit too pristine. Not the greatest album ever, maybe not as good as her monumental first release, but a fun, enjoyable collection of well-crafted punky pop with strong hooks.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Fun!
I thought this album was fun! Definatly a different side of Avril but a very upbeat CD. It makes you wanna dance and sing along. Don't be too harsh on her. It's not her BEST CD, but it is a good one. It gets you in a very energetic mood. The songs are:
Girlfriend, I Can Do Better, Runaway, The Best Damn Thing, When You're Gone, Everything Back But You, Hot,Innocence, I don't Have To Try,One Of Those Girls, Contagious, and Keep Holding On.

As you may know, Avril also released a clean version ... Read More
