They are birds, but they do not fly. They are aquatic animals, but this time they will not swim. Instead, they walk - marching day and night in single file 70 miles into the darkest, driest and coldest continenton Earth. Narrated by Morgan Freeman, "March Of The Penguins" is an amazing, awe-inspiring, all-ages, true-life tale touched with humor and alive with thrills. Breathtaking photography captures the transcendent beauty and staggering you-are-there drama of devoted parent penguins who, in the face ofthe fierce polar winter, take turns guarding their egg and trekking to the ocean in search of food.Predators hunt them, storms lash them. But the safety of their adorable fuzzy chicks makes it all worthwhile. So follow the leader... to adventure. Amazon.com: March of the Penguins instantly qualifies as a wildlife classic, taking its place among other extraordinary films like Microcosmos and Winged Migration. French filmmaker Luc Jacquet and his devoted crew endured a full year of extreme conditions in Antarctica to capture the life cycle of Emperor penguins on film, and their diligence is evident in every striking frame of this 80-minute documentary. Narrated in soothing tones by Morgan Freeman, the film focuses on a colony of hundreds of Emperors as they return, in a single-file march of 70 miles or more, to their frozen breeding ground, far inland from the oceans where they thrive. At times dramatic, suspenseful, mischievous and just plain funny, the film conveys the intensity of the penguins' breeding cycle, and their treacherous task of protecting eggs and hatchlings in temperatures as low as 128 degrees below zero. There is some brief mating-ritual violence and sad moments of loss, but March of the Penguins remains family-friendly throughout, and kids especially will enjoy the Antarctic blue-ice vistas and the playful, waddling appeal of the penguins, who can be slapstick clumsy or magnificently graceful, depending on the circumstances. A marvel of wildlife cinematography, this unique film offers a front-row seat to these amazing creatures, balancing just enough scientific information with the entertaining visuals. --Jeff Shannon Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - Excellent movie, terrific graphics on HDThis is one awesome movie. It follows the March of the Penguins to the breeding grounds. It was amazing what the penguins go through. I laughed and cried and cried some more. Great for any child or adult too. The graphics on HD were great too. Rating: - Not a blu-ray materialNo offence to the Oscar winning documentary. I love the story but it was not shot in HD and they didn't even try to covert it. The picture quality is about the same as the regular DVD upconvert at its best. Huge disappointment! Rating: - Thank God Blu Ray Won!This movie is great, and looks fabulous in Blu Ray. What else is there to say? Rating: - Terrible PictureI agree with a couple other reviews that this movie is not worth buying on Bluray. The movie itself was very interesting, but it is definitely not in High Definition. The company that put this out (I believe Warner Brothers) should be ashamed of themselves. I was watching on a 50" plasma that every other bluray I have has looked unbelievable on, but not this one. Would not recommend buying this, unless buying regular version. I wish I new how to get my money back on it. Rating: - A wonderful movie! This movie was an absolute joy to watch. The dedication and endurance these wonderful birds have is both unbelievable and enchanting. I was entranced with the penguins and also completely amazed at the two men who filmed it. Morgan Freeman was wonderful as the narrator, who gave so much sincerity to the documentary. I will be forever grateful to everyone involved for bringing this beautiful story into our homes |
