Studio: New Line Home Video Release Date: 09/04/2007 Run time: 89 minutes Rating: R Amazon.com: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning is a prequel to the recent remake of Tobe Hooper's classic 1974 splatter film, with an emphasis on the vogue for torture and bottomless depravity that characterize contemporary horror. As one might expect, The Beginning is just that, an origins tale about the Hewitt family of backwoods Texas. Step-by-step, we discover the source of their taste for human flesh, penchant for snaring young people passing through, and, most of all, how young Leatherface (Andrew Bryniarski) came to choose his favorite power tool and wear a mask made of someone else's flesh. R. Lee Ermey is very effective in his perverse authority figure mode as Hoyt, the lawman who earned his badge through unorthodox means and now supplies specialized food to the Lone Star cannibals. Much less interesting than Hooper's two Massacre films, The Beginning (on which Hooper has a production credit) is not so much a tribute to the films he directed but a more sadistic continuation of the franchise. --Tom Keogh Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning was GREAT!I really enjoyed this movie and I was certainly not disappointed. The first one had me a bit confused, so this remake was necessary. The whole story made sense once everything was laid out. I bought both because I love this movie; a true horror movie, unlike what's put on the market nowadays. They just need to quit with the lame movies. This was based on a true story, making it all the more scary (in my eyes.) I loved it! *Tyreema* Rating: - The remake of the first one was better then thisI wanted to love this movie so much since i LOVED the remake of TCM.but this...i cant explain what happened.sure theres lots of blood and gore but something was missing...oh yeah, any form of entertainment.this movie has alot of boring parts and lags alot.the kills are great dont get me wrong but the movie just feels way different.watch the remake of TCM and youll see what i mean.R.Lee Emery steals this whole movie and hes the only reason besides the gore to watch this movie.i would say to rent this ... Read More Rating: - TCM The Beginning, and with any luck, the end! After the mild success of the 2003 remake, it just wouldn't seem right to pass up one more opportunity to milk the TCM series for all it was worth, which brings us to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. For the few viewing this product who aren't already aware, this is a prequel to the remake of the original. It elaborates on the history of Thomas Hewitt (Leatherface), and attempts to provide a background on the chainsaw wielding fiend. The "prequel" bit actually only makes up about ... Read More Rating: - Nothing special hereIt seems to be suddenly, every horror fan wants to know how their horror heroes (idols?) became the way they were. You know, going on the killing spree, generally being bad boys. We've had Rob Zombie's Halloween movie, where we see how Michael became the big bad boy - blame it on the parents - and in the Jason movies, we've seen it during the movies. There's not a special movie just to tell what happened to Jason. This movie is pretty much your standard slasher film. There is absolutely nothing ... Read More Rating: - Amazingly against all odds, NOT BAD AT ALLLets get one thing straight, trying to put any sense or logic to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series is futile. Do you really need some damn logic for a slasher flick? Is the story that important? You can say this is a prequel to the remake, but the 2003 remake was in the fact the 3rd remake of TCM! Leatherface, TCM Next Generation, both remakes later slapped with sequel numbers. When it comes down to it if you want to look at it another way, this is pretty much Texas Chainsaw Massacre part 6, if they play their ... Read More |
