![]() Rating: - Fantastic, well written, enthralling! This series is the best I've read in a long time. It's very well written, will keep you guessing, and you'll come to care about the characters (even the antagonists!). George R.R. Martin is brilliant. Rating: - WonderfulThis is the greatest group of books I have ever read. I've been a long time fantasy reader and this is by far the most engrossing groups of books I've ever experienced. I simply cannot put it down and I'm already reading for a second time. I cannot wait to see what they do with the series on HBO. George RR Martin is the finest fantasy writer I've read. Rating: - An Amazing Start to an Epic SeriesNot normally a fantasy reader, I was skeptical when a friend recommended this book (and series) to me. I put off reading it for some time, but finally ordered the book. I struggled through the first 100 or so pages of A Game of Thrones and it was on the verge of getting lost in the pile of never to be completed novels I have lying around. Luckily, something "clicked" once I got past the initial setup of the novel and I became truly hooked. George R.R. Martin paints an amazing tale ... This book, volume one, is truly great. Book two is very good, book three is the best so far in the series, and book four is a huge disappointment. Hopefully book five due sometime in 2009 will recapture the greatness of the first three books. This most recent purchase from Amazon is a gift for a nephew. Hopefully he will enjoy this ... Read More Rating: - Brilliant start of a great seriesI won't waste too much time on this - the preponderance of highly favorable reviews say it all. Yes, the series is incomplete, so you might consider that when thinking about getting started. Yes, there's quite a bit of potentially 'unpleasant' material in this and the other books, so think about that as well. All that aside, though, this book is a great start to what is already clearly a classic fantasy series - fantastic characterization and immersion in a realistic and intriguing world ... Read More |
