Nearly two dozen songs, zigzagging across Afterglow, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, and Surfacing, solidify McLachlan's reputation as a peerless performer on the DVD; the careful attention she layers over these already full-bodied, melodic songs gives each additional shape, as if she were singing them for the first time, and her easy magnetism in front of a mic draws her wholly rapt audience in close enough to feel her guitar strings vibrate. The same likable star quality carries over to the CD, a 15-song sampler culled from the DVD's 2004 Toronto concert. Though fans of less weighty McLachlan material may miss the comparative wispiness of confections like "Ice Cream," her full-throated pourings-on for "Building a Mystery," "Angel," and "Train Wreck," among others, will keep Afterglow Live's bulb burning brightly for years to come. -Tammy La Gorce Album Description: This amazing CD/DVD set of live material from Sarah's "Afterglow" tour in the Summer of 2004 includes 23 tracks on the DVD and 15 on the CD. ![]() Rating: - A charming and wonderful artist! Her voice will leave you wanting more.Sarah McLachlan is a delight to listen to. I got this cd after buying her Rarities, B-Sides, and Other Stuff cd. Her voice is very much alive and floating on every song! Not one song is run down or tired sounding because of worn out vocals! Sarah's vocals never seem to tire of singing. She has an excruciatingly gorgeous and luscious voice, full of expression and tenderness. This is a collection of some of her prettiest and best songs, on which her voice has shone quite bright indeed. The fact ... Read More Rating: - ExcellentI love it. It'd have been better if the CD had the same songs as the DVD but it's still a good product! Rating: - CD being sold in 2007 no longer crippled.I originally bought this CD/DVD combo in 2005, and experienced the irritation and unhappiness at being unable to rip it to MP3 as others have already noted. However, I noticed in a Barnes & Noble this weekend that the same CD no longer contained the sticker warning on the outside of the front of the jewel case, nor the longer fine print/copy warning on the back panel graphic. So I took a chance and bought it again to see if Arista had listened to the buying public and fixed the crippleware version. Hooray, ... Read More Rating: - I like it better than Mirrorball DVDAs said before me, this concert's editing is sometimes boring, but I like it better than the Mirrorball DVD. Why...? 1. A better performance overall. Sarah's attire, the lights, the scenery... Mirrorball is rather monotone. 2. The sound recording. I almost feel there (home theater, DTS capable). No matter what I do, I cant get the same sound from Mirrorball. 3. The songs from her latest album are here also (Mirrorball concert is previous to Afterglow). Read More Rating: - Thanks for the warning!I must admit I haven't seen or heard this item. I just want to thank everyone who posted warnings about the absurd content protection software, and the lousy video editing. If not for those things, I would probably buy this in a heartbeat and really like it. It's sad that Sarah's wonderful works is being botched so badly by greediness and incompetence! |
