After releasing 33 albums, mounting grueling annual tours, and fashioning an entire industry and lifestyle out of his signature song "Margaritaville," Buffett trots out this two-CD collection. Yet, Meet Me in Magaritaville, which spans 30 years, isn't merely a retread of his long, storied career. Buffett has written two new songs for the package and re-recorded six alternative versions of fan favorites (including a moving version of "The Captain and the Kid," which he included for his ailing father, who died shortly after the album's release). He's also added two new cover songs--a spicy bossa nova version of Fred Neil's "Everybody's Talking" and the Beach Boys' "Sail on Sailor"--as well four live tracks, which shows the singer at his best, conjuring up his own Yuppie Atlantis, an idyllic place where no one has to wear shoes, the sun is always shining, the bar never closes, and Junior Mints are always available at every cinema. A must-have collection for every Parrothead (or aspiring Parrothead), if only for Buffett's track-by-track descriptions. --Jaan Uhelszki Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - Best hits CD availableGreat collection of hits on 2 CDs for all you parrotheads out there. It can't get any better than this. Rating: - It is the Ultimate up until this this pointWith new albums since this this one came out, it is a great one for the collection, but there will nothing on it from Licence to Chill or Take the Weather With You. Still, this is a must have for any fan, as it covers all his best, and some of the lesser known (but golden) songs. Rating: - The quintessential lovable lushThis is a fantastic compilation that Buffett fans will absolutely love. The greatest hits from a great, folksy artist that begs to be sung along to while you're driving down the road or cuddling your honey. What a treat. Rating: - How To Make Millions With Shallow, Meaningless MusicJimmy Buffett has mastered the fine art of taking inane, simplistic lyrics and pairing them with catchy, albeit annoying melodic hooks to create a catalog of overplayed, ridiculous songs catering to the drunken, middle-aged professional. And some refer to Mr. Buffett as a "musician." Wow. "Margaritaville," "Fins" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise" are the trifecta of irritating songs. "Come Monday" had potential but he "rednecked" it on recording. How this entertainer (NOT musician) is so popular ... IN TORTOLA WE WERE BY A BEAUTIFUL POOL WITH PALM TREES. THE BEAUTY WAS ASTOUNDING AND THEY PLAYED ALOT OF MEET ME AGAIN IN MARGARITAVILLE. WHEN I GOT HOME I BROUGHT THIS 2 CD SET AND I HAVE IT WORN OUT. THE MUSIC AND THE SLIDE SHOW OF PICTURES OF THE TRIP ON MY COMPUTER JUST BRINGS ME RIGHT BACK THERE AGAIN.
