Yoga for Beginners "The morning is a precious time," says the narrator of A.M. Yoga for Beginners. "Just as the sun rises and falls, so do our natural rhythms. The morning is perfect time to open our bodies and center our minds." This 20-minute yoga practice with supple instructor Rodney Yee is the perfect way to start your day by energizing your body and calming your mind. Filmed on the beach at Maui at sunrise, the video starts with a 4-minute Conscious Relaxation focusing on breathing, then glides into a 14-minute series of yoga poses that are simultaneously relaxing and energizing. It ends with a 2-minute seated Guided Meditation to center your body and mind. Yee's instruction is detailed and gentle. The video is beautifully filmed: you watch the waves roll in as Yee demonstrates yoga poses on a sandy beach. The yoga practice awakens and stretches your muscles gently, leaving you balanced and focused. "Yoga is the foundation of my day," says Yee. "A few minutes in the morning will help give meaning to your day." --Joan Price P.M. Yoga for Beginners "The evening is the perfect time to calmly transition between being active and being quiet," says Patricia Walden, instructor of P.M. Yoga for Beginners. "One of the greatest gifts yoga has to offer is deep relaxation." This 20-minute program is designed to balance, calm, and revitalize you at the end of the day. It starts with centering poses: gentle stretches bringing awareness and quiet to your senses. Next are standing poses to release tension, increase circulation, expand the lungs, and help you breathe more deeply. Next, forward bends cool the body and bring quiet to the nervous system. The final restorative poses are so relaxing that you may fall asleep. Walden tells you not only how to do the poses, but what you should feel, and how to quiet your body and your mind. Instruction is soothing and explicit. Although this video is aimed at beginners, seldom are modifications given for the less flexible novice, so if any pose causes discomfort or seems impossible, don't push beyond your personal comfort level. The video was filmed on the windswept sands of Death Valley. --Joan Price Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - we love rodneyThis dvd is short enough to squeeze into my (generally rushed) morning routine, but still gets the blood flowing and the stretching I need in order to get through the day. It is not very demanding, but is great for someone like me, who is recovering from an injury. I bought this DVD on a review that said it was good for recovering. I am going to buy his "AM yoga for your week" b/c I love Rodney's style. I even got my mom to try it when I went to visit her, and she's hooked. She went around telling ... Read More Rating: - love the AM, dont love the PMjust like the title says, the AM yoga is awesome. the PM not so much. mabye if i was woman of younger-middle age, id think differently however (instructor for PM yoga is that).. id say the DVD is ideal as a beginner's introduction to yoga however. i just bought more rodney yee dvd's because i really like his style. Rating: - EffectiveOk, I know how much I rant and rave about Rodney! He's like the KING of restorative yoga and the only reason I only gave this dvd 4 stars instead of 5 is because it's on the, well, "easy" side. BUT, that's just my opinion... this could be the perfect dvd for anyone else. However, this dvd is very effective! The AM program is perfect for the quick morning wake up in the lower back. And then there's a great surpise, Patricia Walden for the PM yoga! This contains more standing and focused postures. Plus, ... Read More Rating: - Easy moves with serious resultsI got this DVD to re-start a yoga routine and hopefully find relief from back pain. I started with the AM yoga and was pleasantly surprised at the simple, easy-to-follow instruction and immediate effect. After 3 a.m. routines, my back was better than new. It requires quite a bit of space to practice as one has to extend ones leg fully to one side and then the other (while lying on ones back) at one point of the exercise. Using the yoga band is very helpful especially for those whose muscles ... Read More Rating: - Wish it were longerThis DVD was perfect for when I first started yoga and just wanted a brief introduction. Both practices (AM and PM) are very short - around the 20 minute mark each. As a fresh beginner, that was enough. Now that I've been practicing a while and used to 90-minute classes, I find they leave me wanting more. It is typically reserved for days when I want a quick 'wake up' in the morning, or to supplement my cardio routines on a 'non-yoga' day. Rodney Yee is very soothing and the hip openers feel ...
