Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
Originally written off as a nonthreatening rejoinder to Jeff Buckley, Duncan Sheik has quietly redeemed himself since his self-titled 1996 debut. Trading in the airy detachment of previous releases for a more immediate sound, the New York singer-songwriter's fourth album fizzes with electronics, distortion, and a newfound pop sensibility. Producer Patrick Leonard (Madonna, Jewel, Elton John) keeps things bright and breezy, forcefully shaking Sheik's predisposition for Nick Drake-style moodiness on wonderfully optimistic numbers like "On a High" and "Start Again." But the most surprising twist comes from "On Her Mind," cowritten with Mick Jones of Foreigner, a track that fully dramatizes Sheik's desire to breathe new life into his folk-rock roots. --Aidin Vaziri

Album Description:
1998 release featuring 'Bite Your Tongue', the follow-up to his Gold debut album.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - this is an "I like it all" cd
when i listen to this cd i have a trip. this is one of those cds that i can listen from beginning to end and i like it all. not too much rithm, but a it's got deepness. a not so commercial side of Duncan Sheik with good quality and enjoyable art.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great Disc
It took me a little while to warm up to this one, but it is great. I have noticed, almost as a rule, that whenever I play this CD often, I find myself more creative and inspired. The lyrics speak of very real subject matter, and the collective power of the CD builds up to an awe-inspiring climax with the final song. I thought blasts of energy like this wee only possible in the live arena. Duncan Sheik seems to have a tendency to break the rules of what I think the limits of pop music should ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - a pleasant surprise...
Duncan's most recent cd is a nice blend of his previous, airy mood music, and ambient melodies. But here also is an introduction to more of a pop sound, and procession of a fun beat. Duncan remains a good storyteller, and gets thru the songs in his typical fashion.

Hi lites here include the reflective and somewhat sarcastic "Genius." There's a new bit of attitude to his music brought in with track 3, "Start Again." Track 5 includes some of his best vocals, ranging from deep bass to ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Sweet!
I will admit that I lost interest in Duncan after his first release and did not pick up another of his albums until Daylight. WOW, I'm glad I happened upon his music again. Other reviewers have characterized this album as pop-oriented and dumbed-down to appeal to a wider audience. I'm not sure I agree. But, if that is true, then I must be part of that wider audience. I love it!! I think of Daylight as being an album full of tracks which have the same appeal as did the track, Barely Breathing. ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Better Than Expected
It seems pretty clear, after years of trying to obtain some level of success, Sheik, although still not unfettered by his pursuit of "gold" has at least extended himself enough to get out of a rut of self-obesession. Although a lot of the sound is largely "pop", it has a clever and diverse side to it which, unlike a lot of his other albums, makes it interesting enough to listen to without straining to keep yourself from pushing the "next song" or "eject" button. I have this feeling that if he didn't ... Read More
