Genre: Feature Film-Action/Adventure Rating: PG Release Date: 11-NOV-2003 Media Type: DVD Amazon.com: Ethan Hawke, fresh faced and full of determination, tackles the icy wilds and rowdy boom towns of Alaska in Disney's 1991 adaptation of Jack London's turn-of-the-century gold rush classic. Though somewhat tamed for young audiences, the story of a city kid who befriends a feral half-wolf/half-dog orphan while learning to survive the dangers of nature and man has its share of peril and rousing scenes of wilderness adventure. But the humans are upstaged by both the animals (the standoff between White Fang and a wild brown bear is a highlight) and the Alaskan landscape, from the snow-covered mountains and frozen lakes of winter to the rich green forests and whitecap rivers of summer. The scenes of dogfights and wild wolves hunting game are carefully shot to avoid bloodshed (the opening disclaimer takes pains to remind viewers that all such scenes have been simulated), but they may still be too intense for young children. Recommended for 9 and up. --Sean Axmaker Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - Walt Disney's white fangPlease bring this classic film to Widescreen . I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for this film to come to Widescreen . I will not buy this until it has Widescreen. It deserves much more respect than just low grade Full screen. !! Rating: - Silly Disney Fun Ethan Hawke movie about a wolf, yet a miserable Jack London adaptation. I can never understand why movie script writers believe that they are better at telling a story than a great author . . like Jack London! White Fang could have been adapted to a movie by simply following London's book. Why make up a whole different story and refer to it as an adaptation? Again, this is just a silly Disneyism. Rating: - White FangWas an excellent movie. One that we will watch from time to time for a long time. Grandkids really love it. Rating: - Wonderful family movie...An excellent movie to watch with the family. There are some intense scenes in the beginning but the movie as a whole can be viewed by all. It is an exciting story of how a young man follows in his fathers footsteps to pan for gold. Along the way he makes friends and a few enemies. The movie brings the young man and the dog along their paths at different times in their lives. The ending is great. Rating: - Good movie ---but nothing like the bookI had read White Fang with my 8th graders recently and thought it might be good to compare with the movie. WOAH! Who is Jack? Where was Weedon Scott? Gray Beaver is actually kind of a nice guy in this movie. It was a good adventure movie, but if you are expecting it to be like the book, think again. It WAS good to show the students that movies aren't always accurate to the book, and that was a good lesson to teach. I would have liked this production to be truer to the novel, but not a bad movie ... Read More |
