The digital tapes that DV Cameras use are heavily loaded with metal particles that shed during use. The result of particle shedding will tend to appear on the play back screen as white dots or lines. Recommend having one of these in your camera bag at all times. Rating: - Did the trickThe output, both LCD and copper to my TV, displayed horizontal bars when viewing a mini DV on my Sony camcorder. After initial panic, I looked in the user guide and saw it was a symptom of a dirty head. Running the head cleaner for 10 seconds cleared the picture and it is up and running again. I have read on other sites that using tapes from multiple manufacturers is bad for the tape heads, and I have been using tapes from 3 different manufacturers.
