Product Description:
Romance is in the air when a dashing diplomat (Cary Grant) is introduced to a beautiful and famous actress (Ingrid Bergman). The fact that he's married doesn't stop the loves truck pair from falling into a passionate affair. But it turns out that the actress isn't the only one with a talent for role-playing -- her married lover is actually a single playboy with no intentions of settling down. When his secret is revealed she decides to give her Romeo a taste of his own medicine and discovers it's just what the love doctor ordered.System Requirements:Running Time: 102 Minutes Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/CLASSIC Rating: NR UPC: 017153120479 Manufacturer No: 12047

Christian Dior really ought to be considered one of the stars of Indiscreet, director Stanley Donen's consummately glamorous, altogether grown-up love story. The magnificent 1950s "New Look" gowns Dior designed for Ingrid Bergman, herself at the peak of sophistication and loveliness, are a high point of the film's chic, cosmopolitan mise en scène. Bergman plays Anne Kalman, a celebrated actress who's "the envy of everyone who knows her," yet is bored and lonely. Then she meets suave diplomat Philip Adams (Cary Grant), her match in every way: looks, charm, elegance--the works. The electricity is palpable between them and neither makes any attempt to hide that fact. When Anne learns that Philip is an expert on international finance, she's bold enough to crack: "I'm crazy about hard currency."

It's the very maturity of the romance between Anne and Philip that makes this movie so exhilarating, so romantic, and so affecting. When people fall in love at "a certain age" it's much more poignant; much more is at stake. (The film has a truly surprising plot twist, which throws everything into chaos.) The two "sadder but wiser" stars Bergman and Grant had certainly seen their share of love and heartbreak by this time in their lives, and it shows. (Grant was on the third of his five marriages; Bergman's career had already survived the scandal of her adulterous affair with Roberto Rossellini.) It's fascinating to watch them both, knowing what we know of their personal lives: to see Bergman's Anne throw caution to the wind to commit an "indiscretion" with a married man; to observe Grant/Philip's distinct ambivalence about the institution of marriage. It's a case of picture-perfect casting. --Laura Mirsky

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Paper-Thin Drawing Room Shenanigans Provide an Excuse to Reunite Grant and Bergman
Reunited a dozen years after co-starring in Alfred Hitchcock's most accomplished romantic thriller, Notorious, Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman strike genuine sparks in a soufflé-light drawing room comedy about a love affair caught up in personal deceptions. Directed rather flatly by Stanley Donen as he was making the transition from musicals like Singin' in the Rain and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, the 1958 film is elegantly mounted but a bit hamstrung by Norman Krasna's uneventful script. Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Indiscreet
CUSTOMERS BEWARE! It description lists the DVD as having closed captioned but it does not. I purchased 2 seperate items to make sure and it was not on either the DVD or VHS where it is both listed as having CC for the hearing impaired.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Ab Fab
If you like Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman, LOVE fashion, color movies when "color was color", without computer capabilities to fix "all"--this is your movie. If you love fashion?--the costuming alone is worth watching this movie. Perhaps the story is cliche--fabulous woman meets fabulous man, white lies, then happy ending..but it is a classic. Cary and Ingrid became "Cary and Ingrid" in this movie... Watch it, you'll love it--and watch the clothes...

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - A great movie- a lousy DVD
I just bought this because it is one of my favorite movies and my VHS tape was kaput after so many viewings. DO NOT BUY THIS DVD!! It is supposed to be widescreen, digitally remastered and close-captioned. It is NONE OF THESE THINGS!! The film is full of lines, snow, etc. No re-mastering here. The menu only contains scene selection and play movie. If I thought I could get my money back, I would send this one back. It is most definitely NOT as advertised.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A very good and very charming romance comedy
If you want to see a light, funny, and witty, romance comedy, you've come to the right film. Bergman is at a beautiful, wiser, and charming 43 and Grant is as handsome as ever. He hardly ever changed did he?
The dialog is swift, clever, timeless, and delivered with ridiculous ease from a well picked cast. Even at the outset, the acting by Bergman and strong support by Phyllis Calvert is sublime and transparent. If you aren't smiling or charmed throughout this movie then check your pulse. ...
