Editorial Review: Product Description: Rarely does a mom or dad make it through a day without thinking they could use an extra set of hands. So First Years designed the next best thing -- a safety gate that doesn't require any hands at all! But even though it's simple for an adult to just press on the pedal and walk through, it's too difficult for a baby. The gate fits all standard doorways 29" to 34" wide, and, with use of the Gate Extension Kit (sold separately) will also fit other openings up to 44" wide. The pressure-mounted design won't damage walls or doorways. An audible click lets you know the gate has locked. Amazon.com Product Description: Because of its simple "knee-knocker" mechanism, this Hands Free Gate can do exactly what the name implies: be opened without having to use your hands. Any parent occupied with little ones and all of their necessities will quickly recognize this as a huge benefit. To operate, simply press on the pedal with your toes and then bump the knee plate with your knee. Closing is just a nudge in the opposite direction; you will hear a click when the latch has caught, offering peace of mind that it's secure again.
Before you buy, there are two things to be aware of. One, the actual opening for parents, kids, and/or pets to walk through is only about 18 inches wide. Two, if you want to use this in a doorway and be able to close the door, the foot pedal sticks out too far to allow this. For use with children up to 24 months. Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - misleading descriptionAlthough i must admit that this system could conceivably work just fine for a normal doorway, little information is given to "warn" the prospective buyer of the products limitations as to wider doorways. No provision is made for adjusting to a wider doorway and, although the company has "adjusters", they want an additional exorbitant amount for those "adjusters". The result was that i had to swallow a $22 shipping charge to return the item to Amazon. None the ... Read More Rating: - Great gateI have no complaints about this gate - I love it and am getting another one for another room in our house. Being able to step and knock the gate with your knee when you are holding your baby is really helpful. My husband installed it on a standard door frame. You have to follow the instructions to get it to fit snuggly, but once you have it installed properly, it is solid and won't go anywhere. Rating: - My 11-month old can open this gateWe installed this gate at the top of our stairs yesterday; today, our 11-month old son opened it and fell down the stairs. He's not hurt, thankfully, but clearly the gate isn't very effective. The gate was properly installed and securely closed, but he was able to open it by standing on the foot pedal while holding onto the top of the gate. The gate itself seems well-constructed and is very easy for my husband and I to use; however, because it's also so easy for our baby to use, we'll ... Read More Rating: - Great gateThis gate has been great. It is exactly as pictured, easy to assemble and sturdy enough to handle repeated use. My Maltese puppy figured out a way to get through the side openings but a little duct tape fixed that. It keeps my dog confined and allows my 90+ year old mother free access. I wish I had gotten it earlier. Sharon Bishop Rating: - I can't imagine a better gateThis is pretty much the best gate I could conceive of. The pressure mounts are wonderfully sturdy, the design is ingenious and convenient, and for now, anyway, there's no way my baby is getting past it. If there were any improvement to be made, I wish the profile of the bottom section were a little lower. I've tripped over it and stubbed my toe on it. This is a minor complaint, on balance. |
