Sergent Garcia weds dance-hall reggae and ska to Cuban son and salsa, and the result is relentlessly upbeat and danceable. The band is 14 members strong and has a big sound that includes horns, turntables, bata drums, congas, guitars, flute, and an excellent piano player. Just try and keep that grin off of your face. The band members may sing in Spanish, but you will find that this CD is about having serious fun in any language. --Jeff Grubb Album Details: Second Album from Bruno Garcia and his Band. This Excellent Record is a Mixture of Salsa, Ska, Reggae and Rap. 17 Songs Recorded in French and Spanish Whose Intention is to Unite Different Cultures and Countries. Average Rating:

The beauty and rhythm of the Spanish and French language are omnipresent on this disc. The fusion of Cuban son, reggae, rap/hip hop, and salsa blend tremendously well. If you make it past the first four songs, which had me repeating them over and over, the albums entirety will not disappoint. As a lyricist and musician, there ... This group is very hard to find in U.S. shops, but they're touring here. I met them on tour in Houston (with Los Van Van, who couldn't compare to the fun these guys were dishing out), and they were still amazed that Americans knew of them. I also have their first CD titled "Viva en Sargento", and it is equally high-energy. I'd love to see that one available here as ... Read More |
