Editorial Review: Product Description: The Mavica Photo Printer is the world's first digital printer to use a floppy disk drive. It makes printing high-quality color photos as easy as loading a floppy disk directly from the camera to the printer - no computer, complicated interfaces, or confusing cables and adapters are needed. With the Mavica Photo Printer you can print directly from virtually any video source and capture still images from virtually any video source on a floppy disk. Also you can display images on a TV from a floppy disk. Amazon.com Product Description: The FVP1 from Sony prints images from your Mavica digital camera or other video equipment, such as a VCR or camcorder, with or without a PC. It even allows you to print from a 3.5-inch floppy disk without a PC. Print directly from a video device through the S-video or analog video input connection, or create images with a PC utilizing the supplied printer utility software and transfer them to disk for printing later. The printer's dye-sublimation technology along with 300 x 300 dpi print resolution (1,376 x 1,024 effective pixels) and over 16.7 million colors allow you to create photo-realistic prints with high-definition and accurate shading. Each print cartridge contains special 4-by-5.375-inch paper and is easy to install. Five types of print cartridges (sold separately) are supported, including a variety of standard papers and adhesive-label sheets for stickers. You can print still images from motion video and also choose from normal, split plane (2-split, 4-split, and 16-split), calendars, labels for floppy disks, and index list print types. About 100 seconds are required to print one sheet, while an optional date-stamp allows you to mark each print with the time and date. The 110-120 VAC, 50/60 Hz power supply consumes about 72 watts while printing and 13 watts on standby. Although a PC is not required for most printing tasks, the software is compatible with Windows computer platforms only. ![]() Rating: - Best Thing EverIt may look like an oversize answering machine from the 70s, but this two-tone gray box is actually Sony's new 600-dots-per-inch photo printer. The FVP-1 Mavica Photo Printer lets you print 3-by-5-inch photos with or without a PC, and it offers several ways of capturing digital images. It's the only photo printer I've seen that's equipped with a floppy drive.
