Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Quality and quantity...
I just listened to this album after a long hiatus and was very surprised by its consistent quality. I am most definitely a Breeders/Belly/Kelly Deal/etc., partisan but speaking as objectively as I can Tanya Donelly serves up 11 very solid tracks here, though some are more solid than others (4 may be my favorite...).

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Wonderful album
"King" by Belly was the album I listened to after "Star" and I personally think it's a much better album. Star, to me, seemed unfinished in areas and very much a debut album. "King" has so much more life and song-structure with wonderful melodies. I loved this album from the opening song, "Puberty", which is also my favorite track on the album. This is a great alternative album with songs that are easily understood and can be sung along with. Catchy songs! Great album! A must buy! ;o)

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Are you super-connected
I'm giving this 4 stars because 1. I'm a huge Tanya Donelly fan and this is good Tanya Donelly. 2. I think Star was a little better of an album than this one, but that's not saying much because Star was great. If you're having second thoughts about trying this album, keep in mind there's a greatest hits album for Belly called the Sweetest Ride that has some of the stronger cuts from this album on it, with the exception of a French version of Judas My Heart instead of the original english version ... Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Tanya Donelly is a goddess...
Tanya Donelly really shines on 'King', the follow up to 1993's Star which was a critically acclaimed album. Tanya is one of alternative rock's most important people, man or woman. The combination of the whole band's overall skill, Tanya's amazing vocals and the sheer pop make this a must own of any music fan.

Tanya's vocals will melt you. It was sad to see Belly leave but it brought us a whole new era of Tanya's genius work. Pick up her latest solo album, This Hungry Life, it blows everything ... Read More

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Lackluster
King is substantially weaker than Star, and below the median for Throwing Muses offshoots. It has a couple of okay songs (the title track, and to a lesser extent Red), but the album's lack of critical and popular acclaim is deserved. Try Star or Tanya Donnely's Lovesongs for Underdogs for better stuff.
