Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
Shortly after Metallica became marketable, the heavy metal community began to focus on several other thrash bands from the San Francisco Bay area. Most came and went in the span of time it took to play side one of Master of Puppets, but Testament began a musical crusade that continues today. The band's debut album The Legacy (1987) still holds up as a fine example of hook-laden thrash music. Songs like "Over the Wall" and "The Haunting" balance barreling blast beats and caustic screams with tuneful guitar licks and semi-melodic vocals. Although he eventually quit the band because he didn't approve of its ultra-heavy direction, lead guitarist Alex Skolnick was a large part of Testament's early appeal. And on The Legacy, his euphoric leads and intricate bridge work makes the music enjoyable even when the rest of band sounds somewhat generic. --Jon Wiederhorn

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Best thrash album ever
The title says it all.

Not the greatest production, but the albums content more than makes up for it. Thhe songs are well written, fast and aggressive yet melodic and energetic, excellent guitar work between Eric Peterson and Alex Skolnick and solos to raise demons from the abyss.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The first chapter.
Ah, the Bay Area of the 80's.
Back when speed metal was underground and scared the daylights out of non listeners.
Testament roared onto the scene with The Legacy. A masterpiece and a great introduction to a band that gave us a lot of great future releases.
I'm not one for long reviews so......
If your new to metal or Testament check this one out.
I have to admit some of the songs still sound great. However, like all music, some tracks haven't aged quite as well.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Metal Classic
This is a metal classic that still sounds fresh today. Saw these guys recently and they are even better now. Can't wait for the new CD to come out....8+ years is along time to wait!!! Skinlab have a new live cd coming out the end of April, and my buddy had an advance copy...the most brutal live recording you have ever heard, so pick that up too!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Awesomeness!!!
testament debut album was something that really stand out not only for themselves but in thrash metal scene, the band was formed 5-6 years before this album was released no wonder you can clearly notice the complexity of each songs, its really outstanding compare to debut album of let say... exodus, slayer & anthrax. it has everything, th speed, great riff and great melody both on guitar and vocal. There's only 1 or 2 weak tracks on this album. Just listen to burnt offerings, over the wall, apocalyptic ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Underrated Classic Thrash
Testament often tends to get lost in the shuffle. In the midst of Slayer and Megadeth and early Metallica, it is not difficult to understand why. The Legacy is a great classic thrash album that can be easily overlooked but should not be. Fans of old school thrash will definitely love this album. Great guitar work, great vocals, and breakneck speed are everywhere in this album. The Legacy is an absolutely excellent thrash album and should not be overlooked by fans of thrash. It rocks.
