You've either done it or know someone who has: the one-night stand, the familiar outcome of a night spent at a bar, sometimes the sole payoff for your friend's irritating wedding, or the only relief from a disastrous vacation. Often embarrassing and uncomfortable, occasionally outlandish, but most times just a necessary and irresistible evil, the one-night stand is a social rite as old as sex itself and as common as a bar stool. Enter Chelsea Handler. Gorgeous, sharp, and anything but shy, Chelsea loves men and lots of them. My Horizontal Life chronicles her romp through the different bedrooms of a variety of suitors, a no-holds-barred account of what can happen between a man and a sometimes very intoxicated, outgoing woman during one night of passion. From her short fling with a Vegas stripper to her even shorter dalliance with a well-endowed little person, from her uncomfortable tryst with a cruise ship performer to her misguided rebound with a man who likes to play leather dress-up, Chelsea recalls the highs and lows of her one-night stands with hilarious honesty. Encouraged by her motley collection of friends (aka: her partners in crime) but challenged by her family members (who at times find themselves a surprise part of the encounter), Chelsea hits bottom and bounces back, unafraid to share the gritty details. My Horizontal Life is one guilty pleasure you won't be ashamed to talk about in the morning. Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - Sophomoric ... first of all, i must confess, i'm a guy ... and maybe that's the problem i have with this book. my appetite to read is usually consumed by world war II, true crime and political-themed books, but i like variety in my reading and add healthy servings of pop-culture, autobiographies and humor to the mix. this book was recommended to me as being "hilarious" and "eye opening" ... so i figured i would read it and be entertained by a woman's perspective of things ... i couldn't finish it ... Chelsea Handler (of Chelsea Lately and Girls Behaving Badly fame) doesn't hide anything as she discusses sex and all the embarrassing things that happen on the way to, during, and after a one night stand. This book is highly recommended for anyone who likes to laugh at themselves (and others)! Rating: - Hilarious book, great service! This book is hysterically funny! I read it cover to cover in one sitting and I'll probably read it again! Rating: - Great ReadI started this book not quite knowing what it was before I picked it up. I was laughing I must say 90% of the time... I have told ALL of my friends to read this, and actually lent it to coworkers, never a bad review from any... I cannot wait until she comes out w/ more. Rating: - Good, but not her best.I actually read Chelsea's second book, Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea, before I read this (her first book). After reading AYT,V?IM,C, I had high expectations for this book. To be honest, it did not live up to my expectations. After a few of the essays, it got better, but it never got as good as AYT,V?IM,C. I still enjoyed it, but you should read this one first, then read the other one. Chelsea is a great writer, and I hope she continues to put out books. I have never read ... Read More |
