The authors ease you into the subject with simple projects that introduce VBScript, the ActiveX Control Pad (Microsoft's free visual tool for adding ActiveX controls to Web pages), and basic manipulation of HTML and browser objects through VBScript. With these preliminaries mastered, you move on to a hefty middle section that offers a thorough grounding in VBScript. Detailed chapters cover datatypes, variables, operators, events, string manipulation, functions, loops, and single- and multi-dimensional arrays. The author illustrates the discussion with examples covering many common uses for VBScript, including data validation and manipulation of HTML objects. The final third of the book concentrates on using VBScript with controls, including the HTML Layout Control, and on working with image maps, browser objects, and cookies. Other topics include using third-party controls, converting existing Visual Basic applications to VBScript Web applications, and understanding basic interaction between VBScript and Java applets. The book is handsomely designed, clearly laid out, easy to read, and enriched with useful indexes, including a VBScript reference. The bundled CD-ROM includes all examples from the book, ActiveX Control Pad, Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.01, trial versions of several HTML authoring tools, and a grab bag of other useful tools. Product Description: This is a clear, hands-on guide to adding interactivity to Web pages with Microsoft's ActiveX and VBScript. It includes coverage of the new Internet Studio--Microsoft's principal tool for managing ActiveX Controls and VBScript. The CD is designed to be an interactive workshop that the reader can use to follow the examples presented in the book. Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - One of the Best VBScript book!I like the way Ms. Lemay wrote the book, She makes it easy for a beginner like me in VBscript easier to understand the language. It is like one of her Teach Yourself books! I highly recommend this as a good reference! Rating: - A very good Intro to ActiveX and VBScript, but ...This book does a very good job of getting you right into ActiveX, and then slowly adds the VBScript. While the examples on the CD are well documented, I couldn't get a few of them to work (SelectedIndex) for one. However, I would recommend this book as both a good reference and usuable tool. Note that you should have a pretty good understanding of HTML. If you don't, you'll have problems, but the CD has an HTML book on it that is easily indexed. It helped me out greatly. Rating: - A must-have even in 1999!Excellent step by step lessons on using ActiveX and VBscript. This book cleared up alot of questions I had. I just bought this book a week ago (May 1999) and I wish I had bought it a long time ago. Although this book was published in 1997, it is unbelievably useful today! Rating: - Great Stuff! If you want to learn vbscript quickly (and correctly), pick up this book. Vbscript is rapidly becoming a great scripting language for MS internet web sites. This book gives tons of great examples that actually work when you type it in! And there's several thorough programming references in the appendices |
