Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Debbie Bliss' knitting course is the perfect introduction to this versatile craft, from casting on the first stitch to creating an intricate Fair Isle cardigan. Presented as nine workshops, each lesson builds on the skills already learned to ensure steady, confident progress. As well as teaching new techniques and stitches, each lesson finishes with projects specially designed to put new skills into practice. The first lesson looks at materials and equipment, then takes you through the most basic stitches and techniques. At the end of the first course, you will be able to knit a child's garter-stitch jacket and an adult's stocking-stitch tunic. Subsequent lessons cover simple stitch patterns, Aran knitting, Intarsia and Fair Isle, lace knitting, entrelac, and finishing techniques. Each lesson also presents a collection of stitches that builds into a library, and projects range from clothing for the family to blankets and throws for the home. Packed with hundreds of color photos and illustrations, this is an ideal how-to for beginners and a valuable reference for more experienced knitters. Among Debbie Bliss' many successful books are Classic Knits for Kids, Bright Knits for Kids, Great Knits for Kids, and Nautical Knits for Kids.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I can now knit - thanks to Debbie Bliss
As an authority in knitting, Debbie Bliss has carved out a name for herself. I "How to Knit" because I wanted to learn to knit. I heard from a friend who is a local knitting group that Debbie Bliss's book is recommended. I picked up other beginner knitting books and found them to be written in a trendy manner as opposed to being direct beginner knitting directions.

Debbie Bliss - Thank you. I hope to meet you when you come to America.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great book!
OK, so I had known the basics of knitting before I got the book. I knew how to cast on and off, how to knit (turns out, I used to knit tbl), purl and make basic cables. I was totally afraid of laces and the very idea of shaping sent shivers down my spine. Not any more! I sat down with a pair of needles and worked through the book and I made it, I can knit now. This book has everything - the basics, stitches, techniques and patterns. Some people find Debbie Bliss' way of describing patterns hard to ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Good for someone transitioning from "beginner"
I did not use this book to learn how to knit--I bought it for its stitch libraries and these have not disappointed. There are pages and pages of stitch patterns from the very basic to the more difficult that are easy to read and have great variety. I have incorporated several of these stitch patterns into new designs. My brother is in the navy, so I created a fun scarf pattern using the "Anchor" stitch, and it turned out great. However, I would not recommend this book for someone who has never held ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - USER FRIENDLY!!!
A nicely done book which can take you from absolute or advanced beginner to advanced quite easily. I like the layout, the photos, the projects and the simple way it's written. Also makes a good reference book for the advanced beginner to intermediate.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Knitting book
This is great for a beginning knitter and the pattern suggestions and designs are valuable for experienced knitters, too. I have been knitting for many years but bought it because I had seen it and wanted the patterns. It was VERY gently used but in excellent condition as advertised.
