I heard from a friend who is a local knitting group that Debbie Bliss's book is recommended. I picked up other beginner knitting books and found them to be written in a trendy manner as opposed to being direct beginner knitting directions. Debbie Bliss - Thank you. I knew how to cast on and off, how to knit (turns out, I used to knit tbl), purl and make basic cables. I was totally afraid of laces and the very idea of shaping sent shivers down my spine. There are pages and pages of stitch patterns from the very basic to the more difficult that are easy to read and have great variety.
