Editorial Review:

Product Description:
THE EAGERLY AWAITED COLLECTION OF PERSONAL ESSAYS FROM THE BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF MY HORIZONTAL LIFE

When Chelsea Handler needs to get a few things off her chest, she appeals to a higher power -- vodka. You would too if you found out that your boyfriend was having an affair with a Peekapoo or if you had to pretend to be honeymooning with your father in order to upgrade to first class. Welcome to Chelsea's world -- a place where absurdity reigns supreme and a quick wit is the best line of defense.

In this hilarious, deliciously skewed collection, Chelsea mines her past for stories about her family, relationships, and career that are at once singular and ridiculous. Whether she's convincing her third-grade class that she has been tapped to play Goldie Hawn's daughter in the sequel to Private Benjamin, deciding to be more egalitarian by dating a redhead, or looking out for a foulmouthed, rum-swilling little person who looks just like her...only smaller, Chelsea has a knack for getting herself into the most outrageous situations. Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea showcases the candor and irresistible turns of phrase that have made her one of the freshest voices in comedy today.

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - B-
Chelsea Handler writes in a tone that is dry, deadpan, and hopelessly exaggerated. She has a great eye for the absurd and the ridiculous in all of us, and narrates as such. In this collection of humorist essays, Handler takes normal situations and blows them up into events that are catastrophically unbelievable and believable at the same time - she uses hyperbole both to point out the flaws in our society and to make us laugh at those very flaws. Some of her jokes, however, can be juvenile, like ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Love Her!
If you like Chelsea's brand of humor as seen on her E! Television show, then you'll love this book. It was absolutely laugh out loud hilarious! I felt the stories got funnier as the book progressed, Dim Sum and Kimmy being my faves. I highly recommend for any fan! Way to go, Yelsea (haha!)

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Better On Paper Than On TV
I've watched Chelsea Handler on TV for quite some time as late night fodder that usually puts me to sleep. She's a funny woman with good timing and is nice to look at. Her wit is quick, her delivery sharp. I'm just not all that interested in celebrity gossip, which overwhelms the content.

This book, however, is another story. Presenting as a series of stories from her life, it qualifies as an off-beat memoir with light tales about a young party girl living her life in the spotlight. ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Doesn't Touch Sedaris...
Her stories are laugh out loud funny, but her writing style is much more novice compared to David Sedaris... whoever said she may compare is way off!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - for a good heartfelt laugh
Though as candid and brilliantly inappropriate as her first collection of essays, 'Vodka' reaches past points of 'horizontal life' to focus more on love, family, and friendship. The end product is a rather remarkable collection of stories that are astoundinly funny, yet surprisingly heartfelt. Handler writes with a sincerity that cushions her bluntness. Wheather reading about being kicked half naked out of a London restauraunt, love scorn Peekapoos, or being dry-humped by an angry asian masseause, ... Read More
