![]() Rating: - Hard Times - Hard ReadingI know it is a classic, but so is castor oil. I really appreciate it for the times in which it was written - and I can see parallels between the way children were treated then and how they are still treated in some sects today- but I cannot say I found it an enjoyable read. I prefer Dickens Tale of Two Cities, Great Expectations and Christmas Carol a lot more. Hard Times is not his best effort. Rating: - what a storyI love this book. An enthralling story line above a social commentary and, as always with Dickens, a reflection on human character. Rating: - DickensCharles is a great author. Tough to read and understand but if you take the time and slowly read it you will understand and get something out of it. Rating: - Notes overdone in partSome of the notes were helpful but a lot of them were stuff that you should know if you are a high school graduate. The book was pretty good altho the style was hard to get used to. It was very didactic but it got into a little insight into the characters as the book went on. I don't think this was one of Dicken's best books. Rating: - Memorable Characters From Dickens"Hard Times" is a minor Charles Dickens classic. Like all Charles Dickens' novels it features some great, memorable characters. The setting of the industrial city of Coketown is vividly described as a miserable, polluted town. There are some strong themes of class struggles between the working men in the factories and the harsh upper classes who seek to exploit them.
