What The Wish Book actually is, well that's something you'll have to decide for yourself. Is it one of the funniest books of the year? Some readers say so. Is it a sweet, romantical story that'll remind you of your first big high school crush? Some readers say that, too. Is there a hero, a villain, a pretty girl, a guy with a 665 (not quite a 666) on his head, a mysterious mystery and a fantastic finish? Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes and yes. Is it an epic tale of tragedy, a sweeping historical drama, a gritty political thriller? No, no, and definitely no, and we won't keep bringing them up. The Wish Book takes you deep into the California redwoods to the weird 'n' wacky world of Lake Giardia County, where a surprising discovery by one of the locals leads to all kinds of merry mix-ups and madcap shenanigans. We think you'll agree that this is one of the most inventive books you'll ever have the pleasure of owning and displaying prominently. Chris Strodder's critically acclaimed adventure novel, Lockerboy (2002), was hailed by Ben Fong-Torres (former editor at Rolling Stone magazine) as "an amazing trip you won't soon forget." ![]() Rating: - Rip-roaring hilarity and non-stop adventure!Strodder really outdid himself with this one. After completing his previous work, Lockerboy, he went on to write this. It's masterfully crafted, in essence poking a little fun at the little mounain town in which he grew up. The characters are believable, the plot is masterful and the writing style is excellent. The entire story is told in true-to-syllabic prose, but unlike similar instances of this (like Of Mice And Men), even the narrator speaks in a dilapidaded form of english. Strodder's ... It'll take you back to people and things you remember, while at the same time taking you on a wild new ride. Enjoy!!! Glen Osterhout Pleasanton, California Rating: - Review of the Wish Book from Tyler LongenbaughA charming, delightedful (a Wish Book word), humorative (another Wish Book word), read. This book was great fun for both my mom and me. We enjoy finding books we both like and read often. I definitely recommend this book for ages 7-99. Rating: - What a great movie this would make!Though this book is probably aimed at teens, I bet adults will love it. The comedy is hysterical, especially for anyone who went to high school 10 or 20 years ago, or anyone who ever lived in a small town. There's tension in the story as it builds to an exciting conclusion, but mainly this book is something you laugh with (laugh out loud with, to be more accurate). The descriptions are very picturesque, the situations are imaginative, and the wordplay is clever. It's also a wholesome book, full of ... Read More Rating: - Burls! Burls! Burls!Gifted humorist Chris Strodder's latest young adult adventure yarn weaves a warped world of rural mahem set amidst the dangerous world of...high school. This comic caper is chock full of quirky characters, rough grammar and real live redwoods. Romance and revenge. Burls and more burls. Adolescents. Narrated by a wood-be mutt, Duane Stickey, it's the gruesome account of what happens in a local mountain town when you run out of trees and begin splitting ... Read More |
