All of his works exude their own unique brilliance, causing readers to struggle for stopping points. "Child Of God" is an earlier masterpiece laying the groundwork for his future works. The book centers around a lonesome man by the name of Lester Ballard, he's a little bit (Hannibal Lecter) and a little bit (Ed Gein). Lester finds a dead girls body, instead of telling someone, he takes her home. After the first one, Lester can't stop! But interesting and a dark and desperate adventure."Child of God" is a story of a poor, lonesome and demented redneck named Lester trying to survive in a poor redneck town. From the beginning we see that he has gotten the boot from society (be it as it may) and has been forgotten and left on his own to survive and pursue his own interests, which are very sick and wrong. Read More Rating:  - too strange for me...This book was too weird for me, it was just too graphic. I read it only because it has caused a controversy in an area school. The teacher that allowed his student to read this book has now been fired. I know that I don't want my own kids to read this book. Mr. McCarthy has done much better with his other works. Rating:  - good booki didn't like it as much as The Road, but i still thought it was pretty good. Sometimes i got a little lost as to who was speaking, narrator vs character, but the "story" was good. |
