Editorial Review:

Product Description:
This revision of Gerald Corey's best-selling text introduces students to the major theories of counseling (psychoanalytic, Adlerian, existential, person-centered, Gestalt, reality, behavior, cognitive-behavior, family systems, feminist and, NEW to this edition, post-modern approaches) and demonstrates how each theory can be applied to a single case ("Stan"). Reviewed by 27 of the field's leading experts, Corey's Seventh Edition covers the major concepts of counseling theories, shows students how to apply those theories in practice, and helps them learn to integrate the theories into an individualized counseling style. Incorporating the thinking, feeling, and behaving dimensions of human experience, Corey offers an easy-to-understand text that helps students compare and contrast the therapeutic models. This book is the center of a suite of products that include a revised student manual, a revised casebook, a companion text, and an all-new CD-ROM.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Not what I expected
The book didn't arrive until well into the second week of class and when it finally got there I was expecting it to be in "like new condition" as advertised, but instead it has a lot of highlighting and post-it notes (which now do not want to come out easily) attached to the middle of several pages. I ended up ordering a brand new copy so anything I saved was more than lost by the time it was all over. It would have been better for me to have just gotten a new copy from the school bookstore to begin ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Student Manual for Corey's Theory and Practice of Counseling and Psychotherapy, 7th
This goes along well with the text and is an excellent study guide with the textbook. I recommend it. It is a good overview of psychotherapy theories.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent Source
I ordered this book while studying for the National Board of Certified Counselor's Exam. (NCC) I was familiar with Corey's textbooks that I used while completing my master's in THE EIGHTIES- but this volume far surpassed my expectations.

The volume is filled with information that makes the theories and theorist's discussed so much more available and more easily integrated. I wish the books I had had as an undergrad were so well written and full of useful tables and easily compared information. ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Pay attention
I really meant to order the textbook, not the student manual. For the price, I thought that's what I was getting.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great Text!
This was a very thorough and easy-to-read book about the various theories of counseling and psychotherapy. I, personally, often need "supplemental" things to go with a text to help me learn the material. This book did a great job of explaining the concepts, comparing and contrasting theories, and giving examples of practice and assessment. Although someone else that wrote a review didn't particularly care for the student manual, I found it extremely helpful while preparing for my exams. I read the chapters ... Read More
