You will be able to lose weight and greatly decrease your risk for virtually all of [America's] top killer diseases. You will get the guidance you need to make the lifestyle change you have been waiting [for] for so long. And, in addition, you will gain the courage and conviction that your hunger, cravings, and weight problems are not your fault, and as the pounds fade, so will your guilt and self-blame." So begins The Carbohydrate Addict's Lifespan Program, a book especially tailored for those 40 and over, especially menopausal women and those who were prescribed Fen-Phen. Its premise is simple--it's designed to help you rid your body of excess insulin. When excess insulin is circulating through the body, it's virtually impossible to lose weight, say Richard and Rachael Heller, both research scientists and professors and authors of the bestselling Carbohydrate Addict's Diet. They've created a sympathetic and clear guide for keeping insulin levels--and therefore food cravings--in check, with plenty of appealing and easy-to-prepare recipes, including low-fat Chicken Kiev and Herby Crabmeat Salad. A stress-reduction plan, progress charts, meal plans, and comprehensive index are included.--Erica Jorgensen Product Description: A diet plan for people in their later years begins with a basic two-week plan designed to cut cravings and then goes on to discuss how prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, artificial sweeteners, and caffeine affect cravings. Type 2 Diabetes runs in my family and I suspect I would have become Diabetic by now if it were not for the insight and practical guidelines they provided. I wish every person struggling with a weight problem could get ... Read More Rating: - This diet works IF you are a true "carb addict"Being a carb addict essentially means that you are an insulin "over secreter". When carbs are regularly eaten, theoretically, too much insulin is secreted for the carb load presented and overstorage occurs and you become fat even though you seem to really not be eating "alot" of food. If you are not a carb addict, you do not oversecret insulin...you appropriately secret insulin for the caloric load you consumed. Therefore, if you're eat a lot of food...you get fat-period. I am a carb addict ... Read More Rating: - Excellent follow up to the first book...A wonderful follow-up to the first book, The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet. This book adds a few new suggestions, such as eliminating diet sodas and other artificial sweeteners, and has many other options for making the diet even more successful. They also have a very lengthy scientific section in the beginning that explains exactly what goes on inside the carb addicts body. And proof of what excess insulin can do to your body if it goes unchecked. Very good book and very good program! ...
