Ellin Oliver Keene and Susan Zimmermann have returned with a new edition of Mosaic of Thought that features 70 percent new material. When the first edition published ten years ago, Mosaic of Thought became a runaway best seller as the first book to explicitly describe the use and benefits of strategy-based comprehension instruction. Since then comprehension strategy instruction has exploded, leading to numerous inspiring variations on Mosaic's instructional principles, as well as a widening of the comprehension research base. Now the second edition offers up-to-the-minute insight for classroom teachers, literacy coaches, and school leaders everywhere, and reminds everyone of precisely what effective, long-lasting comprehension teaching looks like.
Keene and Zimmermann have also created an invaluable Q-and-A section with smart, informed responses to the questions that today's teachers most frequently ask about strategy-based teaching. Whether you are just now joining the hundreds of thousands of teachers who have made Keene and Zimmermann their central resource for comprehension teaching, or whether you've relied on their advice for years, Mosaic of Thought, Second Edition, will change your literacy instruction - and possibly your own reading - forever. It's filled with vital, new information, new research, and proven practices. Read it today and give your students strategies for connecting with texts that will last a lifetime. Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - It'll Make You Think!During my credential program, I heard and read about think alouds and comprehension strategies, but didn't get to see those in practice in the classroom. I knew they were important, but didn't know how to implement them. This book offered practical advice (for multiple grade levels) that will help me begin to teach these strategies in the fall. The authors describe a clear structure for teaching comprehension, and offer real world narratives of teachers using the strategies. There was a lot to think ... Read More Rating: - Mosaic of Thought, Second Edition The Power of Comprehension Strategy InstructionI am a reading specialist at a K-8 school. I found this to be an excellent resource to put into practice myself and to share with classroom teachers. The writing style makes it easy to read and there are very practical strategies to put to use right away. This should be required reading for every teacher to know how to effectively approach teaching comprehension stategies to their students. Rating: - Reading ResearchUp-to-date research on what works when teaching reading in an easy to read format. Personal experiences. Rating: - Writing Style I did not care for the writing style of this book. (Too chatty and conversational.) The "think-aloud" and "questioning" examples sounded forced and patronizing. Rating: - Second Edition of Mosaic much more practical!Ellin Keene has added a lot more depth and practicality in her second edition. All teachers of reading should read this book! |
