Binding: PaperbackEAN: 9780071106351 Edition: 6th ISBN: 0071106359 Label: McGraw Hill Higher Education Manufacturer: McGraw Hill Higher Education Publication Date: December 01, 2005 Publisher: McGraw Hill Higher Education Studio: McGraw Hill Higher Education Editorial Review: Product Description: This International Series in Pure and Applied Mathematics text is designed for the junior/senior mathematics major who intends to teach mathematics in high school or college. It concentrates on the history of those topics typically covered in an undergraduate curriculum or in elementary schools or high schools. At least one year of calculus is a prerequisite for this course. This book contains enough material for a 2 semester course but it is flexible enough to be used in the more common 1 semester course. ![]() Rating: - Ugh!I had to buy this textbook for a class. This book was pretty much not helpful at all and boring. But maybe that is just the nature of the subject. I'm glad that class is over. Rating: - Great Historical Book of MathematicsI really love this book! I highly recommend it. I haven't encountered any other that has come close to this book. The minute I got this book I fell in love with it and I was reading it everyday. The problems at the end of the chapters are so cool. When I did a course in the History of Mathematics we used Boyer and that book is so boring! I really don't like history, but Burton makes it much more interesting. I would recommend this book for a course any day in the history and development of mathematics ... Read More Rating: - Nothing Special to reportThis book is too long, there's no way more than half of it can be covered in a semester. The problems are very easy and don't require the reader to think too often. I think this book had a hard time finding it's identity. The chapters are written like a history book with little computation involved but the questions at the end are all math based, generally reapeating the same concept over and over again. I'd say there are better, more concise, Math History books out there....for a cheaper too!!! Rating: - 2 StarsBook was like new, but took a very long time to get here (over the max amount of time expected by seller). Also, when emailing the seller, NEVER got a response! Rating: - Like NewThe book arrived in time for my class, and in almost perfect condition!Excellent Transaction! |
