A fake. A phony. At least that's what police officer Daniel Sinclair thinks. And Cleo agrees. But she's out of money and needs a job, so when the call for a psychic comes from the chief of police in Egypt, Missouri, Cleo, and her dog Premonition board a train in Seattle for the cross-country journey to the Midwestern town that is so small a vegetarian would-be psychic can't find a decent meal. There, beneath the picture of pulchritudinous perfection, Cleo finds a whole cast of eccentrics, including former San Diego hostage negotiator Daniel Sinclair who has returned home to care for his developmentally challenged brother Beau, a police chief who consults tarot cards, and a dentist mayor with the phoniest smile money can buy. Haunted by nightmares of the accident that killed her fiancé and their unborn child, Cleo believes her "gift" for seeing things relates solely to the horrible night she'll never forget. Imagine her surprise when she finds her dreams filled with torrid visions of her dubious escort, Daniel--and details of Egypt's only murder, which is as yet unsolved. Award-winning author Theresa Weir blesses audiences here with her talent for vivid prose ("He looked at her with spoon-bending concentration ...."), quirky characters, and unexpected humor. --Alison Trinkle Product Description: If Cleo Tyler were honestly capable of seeing the future, she would have known that love was heading her way. The acclaimed fortune-teller, whose so-called gift is more style than substance, is asked to help the residents of Egypt, MO, find the missing town key. But past secrets, love, and an unsolved murder come between both of their plans and throw them into unforeseen danger. Has Cleo's smokescreen inadvertently shed light on a long-forgotten mystery? Find out in Theresa Weir's vivid tale replete with humor, wonderfully quirky characters, suspense, and lots of steamy romance. Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - ok but no where near greatto be honest i didn't really like this book. i had high hopes for it because of the reviews. however, i found the writing disjointed and hard to follow in parts. i don't see why cleo and danny liked each other. and i don't think there was much of anything between them. they treat each other horribly, and don't trust each other. danny treats cleo really really poorly, and she doesn't seem to have a problem with it. also, the mystery/suspense part was just retarded, and didn't really ... Read More Rating: - Really more of a 3 and 1/3 starsThis was a really quick, light hearted read. It does not start out with much on the lines of suspense, but about midway through the story shifts into a paranormal encounter involving death and kidnapping. Although there are no real red herrings, no clever twists, no surprise ending there was still something about this story that kept me turning the pages. The relationship between the two characters is a bit strange. The author failed to emphasize why Cleo and Daniel are attracted to one another. ... Read More Rating: - A different but great bookI enjoyed reading about these quirky, imperfect characters and finished the book in one day. Ms. Weir gives us an offbeat, but not stupid, sense of humor to handle the problems the characters were dealing with. The book was wonderful. Rating: - Almost as good as "Cool Shade"Theresa Weir takes a lot of chances with this book. Even more than usual! Her heroine, Cleo, is a reluctant psychic with an eating disorder. Her hero, Daniel, is a cop taking care of his mentally challenged brother. They make mistakes -- sometimes big ones. There are twists in both the characters and in the plot. Also, Theresa Weir is not afraid to challenge the reader. She plants clues instead of spelling everything out. I think that shows a lot of respect for her readership. I ... Read More Rating: - UNEXPECTED! UNFORGETTABLE!Theresa Weir never writes what you expect -- unless you expect the unexpected! Say "romance fiction" and you think "two fairly normal people" and "obstacles to a happy ending" equal a pretty good book. With Theresa you get sometimes pretty "un-normal" people, or pretty flawed people, or people who are just barely coping, people who make you stop and think. Cleo is one of those people. She has problems -- serious problems. But she is not without redeeming qualities. In fact, in her slightly skewed ... Read More |
