The priests and priestesses of Atlantis have known for many years that the Sea Kingdoms were doomed. But now the final destruction has arrived they find themselves less prepared than they had thought for what lies ahead. Micail and Tiriki, prince and princess of the last island to fall, as well as priest and priestess, are separated during the final escape. Micail and his cousin, Prince Tjalan, successfully arrive at their planned destination, a trading post in the Hesperides (the British Isles) where Tjalan loses no time in taking charge. He dreams of continuing the traditions of Atlantis and founding a glorious new empire -- whether the local tribes like it or not. Micail and the other priests dedicate themselves to fulfilling an ancient prophesy that they will build a great temple in this new land -- and set about finding a way to shift the huge blocks of granite that will become Stonehenge. Micail's beloved wife Tiriki also arrives in the Hesperides, but, blown off-course by a storm, her ship lands on the wrong shore. She and the elderly priest Chedan lead their small group in forming a new community in harmony with the local population at the sacred Tor (Glastonbury). Once the two groups become aware of each other, conflict will become inevitable. A deeply moving and utterly convincing tale of faith in the face of adversity, filled with memorable characters and haunting landscapes. Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - Ancestors of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley"Ancestors of Avalon" is written in Zimmer Bradley's unique and detailed style, much as her other books of the Arthurian legend and her science fiction series have made her famous. The reader feels as if s/he is actually there because the characters are drawn so vividly. Her knowledge of the Atlantean legend, probably gleaned from the Edgar Cayce readings, and her detailed description of Ancient Southwestern England makes for a book that is hard to put down. A good read for a winter's eve when ... Read More Rating: - delivery ruins the coverThe description of the product was for the large paper-back version of this book. However, when the book arrived, it was a hard-cover with a smashed corner and torn cover. Rating: - Doesn't Live up to the Avalon SeriesLike everyone else here, I had loved (and I do mean loved!) the Avalon series. I felt that no one portrayed the preChristian land of Britain more brillantly or more indepth than Ms. Zimmer Bradley and I deeply mourned her passing. I was thrilled to hear of this new novel, thinking that it would continue the story alluded to by the past life memories of several of the Avalon characters. Well, even if there was much connection (which I didn't see), the style of writing and the character portrayals were ... Read More Rating: - Took a long time to readI had read all of MZB's books and got through them very quickly -- they were all so delightful to read -- books you could not just put down. Then, I read this one. While it was not an "awful" book like some reviewers say, it did take a LONG time to get through. It was a complicated story and I had to reread some parts several times to understand what was being said or going on. No, it may not be a true MZB book, but it was a decent read, if you have a lot of time. Rating: - Not MZB but a decent readI have read " The Mists" at least twice in the past 20 years, enjoyed as well "The Forest House" and "Lady of Avalon" and the story and characters are imprinted in my heart. Recently I came upon "The Fall of Atlantis" and although the amount of characters in such a small book was rather overwhelming, I managed to love and understand each of them as only MZB can make you do. "Ancestors of Avalon" connects MZB's Atlantis story to Avalon and makes us believe that both places did actually exist. Diana ... Read More |
