Setting: Contemporary
Sensuality: 4

Prolific author Barbara Taylor Bradford, riding high on the success of the television adaptation of her bestselling novel A Woman of Substance, introduces her loyal readers to Laura Valiant and Claire Benson, two exceptional women who have been best friends since childhood. Each has grown up and lead interesting lives: Laura is married to the almost-too-perfect-to-be-believed Doug Casson and a partner in a successful New York art dealership, and Claire, long divorced from Dr. Philippe Lavillard, has custody of their enchanting daughter Natasha and a satisfying career as the publisher of a Parisian decorative arts magazine. While in Paris on a shopping excursion for her dealership, Laura is delighted to be able to spend time with her old friend, and when each woman encounters calamity in their personal lives, they are able to turn to each other for help and support. Although their lives diverged many years before, nothing could ever affect the deep bonds of a friendship forged so long ago--not even the disturbing discovery of Nazi-stolen fine art. For fans of Barbara Taylor Bradford, the sometimes-improbable dialogue and tidy plot will not deflect the enjoyment of a unique bond between two remarkable women. --Alison Trinkle

Product Description:
Barbara Taylor Bradford has become one of the world's most cherished storytellers, having written fourteen bestselling novels that went on to become enduring favorites. In A Sudden Change of Heart, readers are once again invited to fall under the spell of a magical weaver of tales at her most seductive.

Laura Valiant and Claire Benson are best friends from childhood and have remained exceptionally close through the turmoil of adult life. They have much to celebrate: Laura is a partner in a challenging and successful art dealership in New York, and her marriage to the handsome and always amiable Doug seems to come right from a storybook. Though divorced from her French husband, Philippe Lavillard, Claire delights in her precocious daughter, Natasha.

But the two friends' lives do not follow the paths we imagine they will, and when Claire is confronted with sudden tragedy, she naturally turns to Laura for help. When the long-hidden history of the Lavillard family intersects with Laura's investigation into artwork stolen by the Nazis during the war, Barbara Taylor Bradford's gripping tale reaches a dramatic and unexpected crescendo.

A Sudden Change of Heart revolves around overcoming adversity as well as celebrating life's joy; ultimately, it is a moving expression of the triumph of the human spirit and the healing power of love.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - She can't be that talentless, and still so popular? I guess she can...
"Power of a Woman" was an awful novel, but since Bradford is so popular, I figured that one must have been an exception. It wasn't. "A Sudden Change of Heart" isn't much better. There's hardly any plot to be found (the story that's described on the back of the book takes place only in the last half of the novel). Instead it's filled with endless superficial dialog and descriptions of paintings and furniture. Like with "Power of a Woman", with this book Bradford shows neither talent or inspiration. ... Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Made me Cry
I've read most of BTB's books. When I'm done with them, I donate them or sell them. But to me "A Sudden Change of Heart" was one of her best and I'm keeping it.

Even though I agree with some of the other readers, that the "language" the characters spoke was a bit antiquated and formal, I really enjoyed the book.

I was at a doctor's appointment today, and I started to tear while I was reading what happened to Claire. I had to stop for awhile.

The friendship between ... Read More

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Please stop publishing this garbage!
I keep borrowing BTB books from the library (won't pay for this) hoping she'll get better - and she only gets worse! This story has holes you could drive a truck through. The characters are flat, the action non-existent. It's bad! BAD! BAD!
Spoiler warning - two quick examples. The entire story is based on two children ages 5 and 10, being best friends. Ain't goona happen. And, in one crucial scene, two dying women are found shot on the floor, and their rescuer(?) calls an ambulance, then makes ... Read More

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Difficult to get through....
My sister warned me not to read it, but i did anyway. It was like reading a badly written soap opera. It was not at all what i expected from the book.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Brilliant!
As a Barbara Taylor Bradford fan, I have long awaited the arrival of her newest book, and when it did come, I realized it was worth the wait! Despite what the some of the other reviews have said, I would encourage anyone to buy it. It is truly a work of art. She show her all-roundeness and creative skills in this book, as the main characters go through almost everything possible! And it is seen that she has gone through a lot of work as seen with her writing on the Holocaust and the Nazi victims. Well ... Read More
